SWIMMING LESSONS: SUMMER TERM 2017
As you are aware, the ability to swim and be confident in water is an important skill that every child should have the opportunity to acquire. It is also an integral part of the requirements of the National Curriculum.
With this in mind, we are intending to give allYear 2 and 3 pupils the opportunity to attend swimming lessons next term. The children will travel to Wetherby Leisure Centre every Tuesday afternoon, the first session being on Tuesday 25th April 2017, leaving Follifoot bycoach at 1.00pm and returning by 2.45pm. The children will be assessed at the pool and divided into ability groups to follow a programme of activities that will include water confidence, stroke improvement, personal survival and basic rescue skills. They will be able to work towards achieving a wide variety of certificates and follow a programme of National Curriculum awards. The final session will be on Tuesday 18thJuly as there will not be lessons on Tuesday 11th July due to the York residential taking place.
Wetherby Leisure Centre has advised that the children should wear a close fitting swimming costume or trunks and they will require a towel. Long hair must be tied back tightly or a swimming hat worn. No jewellery (including earrings) will be allowed, could I please ask that earrings are not worn at all on a Tuesday. If your child uses an inhaler, please ensure that this is taken with them. The information on the annual Rolling Consent Form will be used so if you have any amendments, particularly for mobile phone numbers, please let us know immediately.
The cost of each session, which we have been able to subsidise, works out at just £4.55 per week including coach costs and dedicated swimming teachers, which we feel is excellent value for money. We are requesting two half-termly contributions of £25.00 via School money, the first instalment payable before Monday 3rd April and the second before Monday 22nd May 2017. If this arrangement causes any problems, please speak to Mrs Giddings in the office.
