SVDP Home Repair Program Processes and Procedures

Step-by-step guidelines for how to respond to homeowner who calls SVDP in need of home repair services:

  1. If the homeowner calls a conference directly, the conference will make a home visit, confirm the repair need, and complete the home repair program’s intake form and submit to the office for approval.
  1. If homeowner calls the Diocesan Council (DC) office, the DC will respond as follows:
  2. If the homeowner lives within a conference’s boundaries, the DC will refer to conference for a home visit.
  3. If the homeowner lives outside of a conference area, the DC will refer the homeowner to the appropriate district or to a nearby conference for a visit.
  4. If there is an emergency, the DC will use its discretion to refer directly. If the DC makes a direct referral, the DC will gather as much info by phone and will call Handyman Connection (HC).
  1. During the home visit, after completing the home repair intake form, the Vincentian will explain the Society’s relationship with HC and let the homeowner know that he/she can expect to receive a call from HC within 3-4 business days. The Vincentian will also have the homeowner sign the acknowledgement statement on the intake form noting their understanding that the completed intake form does not promise repair service.
  1. The Vincentian will contact the Diocesan Council with the referral and will email or fax the intake form to the Council. The Diocesan Council will forward the referral to HC.
  1. HC will make contact with the homeowner, gather additional information, and determine if a repair can be made. If so, HC will schedule the appointment, conduct the repair, and have the homeowner sign the appropriate waiver.
  1. HC will email DC to confirm job completion, and DC will pay for all costs incurred through our Home Repair Program.

When assessing a repair need, please find out as much information as possible. Please consider the following questions, if applicable, when completing the intake form:

  • Drywall repair: What type of texture? Do they have paint? Where is the problem area located? The year the home was built due to lead paint and asbestos is vital.
  • Siding replacement: What type of siding? How many planks are bad? What is the approximate square footage affected?
  • Wheelchair ramp: Where is the ramp needed? Approximate size of ramp needed?
  • Floor repair: What type of flooring?
  • In what room does the work need to be done? What is the size or approximate square footage of the work area?
  • Plumbing: What type of water fixture? Is the repair needed in the tub, shower, sink?

Mobil homes are NOT able to be worked on due to many special order parts, unless the need is for a handicap ramp. Please remember that the SSVdP Home Repair Program is only available for homeowners
