OBITUARY

JOAN GRAHAM 1923-2012

It is with great sadness and regret that the Bridge Group have to report the death of Joan Graham. Sadly Joan passed away in her sleep in the early hours of Thursday morning the 6th September.

Many long term members will remember Joan, she was membership secretary from 2001-2005 and ran the Beginners Bridge Group from 2001 to 2010 and the Intermediate Group from 2003-2008

Since the winter of 2005 Joan also ran a twice monthly Social Bridge Group at Granfers Hall and this group is still running. I speak on behalf of the members to say she was held in very high esteem and will be very greatly missed by all of us.

Joan leaves a son, daughter-in-law and two grand-daughters and all our sympathies go to them at this very sad time.

Jenny Kehoe

Social Bridge is held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month at Granfers Community Centre. Please ring Jenny on 8647 9025 for further information.

NEW GROUP CALLING ALL THEATRE LOVERS

I am planning to start a Theatre Group. The idea would be for us to meet and plan theatre outing in a small group. This would mean that we would be able to book seats to see things that may only be on for a short period, rather than only going to long running performances such as musicals. Please ring me if you are interested in joining such a group so that I can ascertain whether there is enough interest.

SOCIAL CLUB NEWS

We need new faces to help with Social Club activities-support will be available! Please contact Maggs Sandilands on 86474419 if you are interested - you will get a warm welcome.

The costing of any outing includes coach hire, a tip for the driver and entrance fee-we are non profit making! But due to rising fuel prices coach costs keep rising too.

Social Club Guidelines

1.Bookings These must be made using the Application Form, plus cheque to secure a place, either by post (plus SAE) to the organiser,

or in person at a General Meeting. Verbal requests do not secure a confirmed place.

A STAMPED ADDRESSED ENVELOPE must be enclosed when booking by post, in order to be sent the RECEIPT which confirms

there is a place on the outing.

An EMERGENCY CONTACT is requested, as without this the organiser would not know how or who to inform should a member

have an accident or be taken ill, especially if they were unable to

travel home on the coach. We hope this shows an assurance of

care, and is not perceived as intrusive. All applications are treated

as confidential and are destroyed after the outing or theatre trip.

The organiser of each outing will keep a WAITING LIST.

2.Payment - by cheque only please!

One cheque for EACH outing or theatre trip. Each event has its own organiser and funding etc.

3.Guests Members are welcome to invite their non-U3A spouse or a friend, on ONE outing or theatre trip a year.

4. Cancellations of Bookings for outings and theatre trips.

In the case of hospital admissions and/appointments at short notice, we ENDEAVOUR to make a refund IF the place can be filled from the waiting list.

NB. NO REFUND will be made to anyone failing to turn up - or do not turn up by the PICK UP time stipulated on the day.

THEATRE OUTING

“Nine to Five” at the New Wimbledon Theatre on Thursday 25th October at 2.30pm. Cost £16.50 for £35 seat.Seats are in the stalls, rows G and H.

“Nine to Five” is an hilarious new musical based on the hit movie and centres on three workers who turn the tables on their sexist egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot of a boss. They conspire to take control of the company and learn that there is nothing they cannot do, even in a man’s world. Should be a great tonic.

It stars Bonnie Langford, Ben Richards, Amy Lennox, Natalie Casey, and Jackie Clune. As the newsletter publication date has changed, please ring Jenny Kehoe ASAP if you are interested. Tel 8642 9025
