Museums Aotearoa is New Zealand's independent professional peak body for museums and art galleries and those who work in or have an interest in them. Members include museums, public art galleries, historical societies, science centres, people who work within these institutions and individuals connected or associated with arts, culture and heritage in New Zealand.

Museums Aotearoa undertakes work in support of its members and the museum sector in New Zealand, and participates in a range of projects in partnership with other organisations.

1 Term and hours of work

This is a part time, casual role, which is expected to require around10 hours per week, spread over several days each week, from February to March 2018. Actual hours are negotiable, and there is potential for some additional work for a suitable candidate if another project comes on stream.

2 Job Purpose

The position ofSurvey Coordinator exists to administer the National Visitor Survey during February and March 2018 for Museums Aotearoa and our members. This will involve:

  • contacting and encouraging museums to participate
  • updating and distributing survey kit material
  • supporting participant museums by telephone and email
  • recuiting and training volunteer interviewers
  • facilitating data entry
  • troubleshooting for survey participants
  • following up and returning visitor data to participants
  • keeping accurate records so the continuity of the project is assured
  • arranging reports and dissemination of results
  • Additional administrative tasks as agreed

3 Key Output Areas

Specific tasks are outlined in more detail in the National Visitor Survey instruction kit and will be reviewed at the start of the project. The following key output areas represent the broad responsibilities of the National Visitor Survey Coordinator (Casual/fixed term):

  • good records are kept of participating museums, dates, volunteers and any queries that arise
  • the survey database includes complete and accurate data for 2018
  • a high proportion of museums participate the survey
  • participatingmuseumsget timely access to their results
  • Survey data is consistent with previous years data and ready for analysis and dissemination
