Surrey Undergraduate Research Journal
Academic Support Policy
When submitting a manuscript to the Surrey Undergraduate Research Journal (SURJ), the Editorial Teamrequests that all Authors discuss their submission with an academic member of staff at the University of Surrey prior to submitting their manuscript to the Journal. All Authors should return the ‘Academic Support Form’ (below) when submitting their manuscript to the Journal (this should be submitted as a supplementary word document when submitting the manuscript to the Journal) and will be asked to confirm that they have done so via the ‘Submission Preparation Checklist’ upon submission of their article.
The SURJ Editorial Team request that Authors discuss their submission with an academic member in their department prior to submission so that any potential conflicts of interest between: the University (faculty, department, members of staff, etc.) and/or other organisations/individuals in relation to the publication of Authors manuscript can be identified. This is important in ensuring that issues relating to Intellectual Property, Copyright, authorship, assessment and marking, plagiarism etc. are addressed and not unintentionally breached by any party involved in the publication of a manuscript.
Any queries regarding the Academic Support Policy and Form can be directed to the Editorial Team at:

Academic Support Form
I confirm that I have liaised with a member of staff within my Faculty / Department at the University of Surreyregarding the submission of my manuscript to the Surrey Undergraduate Research Journal.
The member of staff (named below) has read a full draft of the manuscript and supports the submission of the manuscript (title below) to the Journal. Having read the manuscript in full, the academic member of staff believes the manuscript to be of a suitable standard to be put forward for submission to SURJ in regards to both itssubject content and the academicstyle in which it is written.
I have made the member of staff aware of the origins of any data to be published in the manuscript, which have been openly discussed. The academic member of staff foresees no apparent conflict of interest in the publication of this manuscript, for example: use of Intellectual Property (IP) belonging to another academic member of staff at the University of Surrey or other University’s / Organisations; conflict with publishing data derived from Professional Training Placements (PTY); or conflict relating to marking and assessment of the student’s work.
I understand that the academic member of staff is commending the submission of the manuscript, but it is not responsible for the submission of this manuscript. I accept that I am responsible for the publication of this manuscript and ensuring that the Editorial Policies of the Journal are met.
