JOB DESCRIPTION
Post:Volunteer Development Worker
Responsible to:Operations Manager
PURPOSE OF JOB:
- Develop the Hub and manage all day-to-day functions
- Effectively recruit, train, support and manage the volunteers who provide the information service to customers
- Ensure the Hub provides excellent customer service at all times
- Network with relevant organisations to broaden and enhance the services offered by the Hub to the local community
- Promote your Hub effectively, and work with other Hubs to organise successful joint promotional activities
- Collate and present monthly reports and KPIs to deadline
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop the Hub to ensure the positive contribution it makes in the local community is maximised, managing all day-to-day functions effectively
- Responsibility for safety and security of the Hub building and those using it, and for ensuring that any problems with the fabric or facilities of the premises are addressed and reported to the Senior Volunteer Development Worker promptly
- Recruit and train volunteers so that they are equipped to provide a high quality information and support service to customers
- Ensure that you and all the Hub’s volunteers provide excellent customer service at all times. Effectively line-managing, developing and supporting the volunteers so that they achieve consistent high standards of performance across the range of tasks required to run the Hub successfully
- Use existing and, in conjunction with the Senior Volunteer Development Worker, develop new team building and training activities and initiatives for the volunteers
- Manage the volunteer rota to ensure adequate cover so the Hub can open as advertised, including cover for Saturdays when needed
- Network with relevant organisations to maximise the services offered by the Hub to the local community, ensuring that a wide variety of drop-ins are regularly available
- Increase enquiry levels by promoting the Hub effectively within the local community, including working with local press and media; and work with colleagues at other Hubs to create joint support opportunities and promotions, ensuring all campaigns are delivered successfully
- With support from SILC’s computer services company, take responsibility for security and basic maintenance of the Hub’s IT, including administration of the Hub’s email accounts
- Prepare and produce documents, letters, emails and other documentation for the Hub as required
- Ensure all money handling procedures are followed correctly
- Collate and present end of month reports and KPIs by deadline to the Senior Volunteer Development Worker using the templates provided, and submit timely requests for annual leave and TOIL to the Senior Volunteer Development Worker
- Seek support from the Senior Volunteer Development Worker when unsure of practices and procedures regarding enquiries and volunteer issues
- To provide cover at other Hubs as needed from time-to-time, participate in Hub Team meetings and attend training as required
- At all times to work within the Hub policies including Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety and other good management policies; observe the requirements of the Data Protection Act and Health & Safety legislation

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Post:Volunteer Development Worker
Education
Essential:Minimum 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, including Mathematics and English or equivalent
Preferable:Customer service related qualification
Experience
Essential: Culture of customer care
Volunteer management including recruitment, induction, training, development and retention within a customer service environment
Day-to day running of a service
Promotion of services and opportunities
Working to deadlines and meeting targets
Preferable:Working with disabled people
Working in the voluntary sector
Skills
Essential:Excellent communication, interpersonal and facilitation skills
Development and delivery of training resources for both groups
and individuals
Sound administration skills, including good working knowledge
of MS office
Excellent time management skills
