Supporter Relations Volunteer– Financial Processing Unit

Task description

Volunteers make an important contribution to Christian Aid’s work. The Financial Processing Unit plays a vital role in ensuring that money given to Christian Aid is processed efficiently and promptly, and is recorded on the database accurately.

As a volunteer in Christian Aid’s Financial Processing team you will have the opportunity to use and develop your financeadministration skills, be part of a team and contribute to Christian Aid’s work in this vital area.

What will I do?

  • Assisting the team with opening the post and sorting the cheques into their appropriate batches.
  • Checking the thank you letters that are being dispatched, ensuring the letters are accurate and that address details are correct.
  • Entering the donation details which are received onto Ascent (the in-house database).

With wider understanding of the Financial Processing Unit work, there will be greater opportunity to introduce more variety in the tasks. As you become more familiar with the database, you will have a chance to build up your skills and move into new areas of work.

How much time can I give?

We are looking for someone who can work one day a week ideally onTuesdays or Thursdays (as this is when we receive the post), however Wednesdays should be ok too. The individual will be required to volunteer for three months, with the possibility of it being extended to six months.

What skills do I need?

You will need:

  • good numeracy skills
  • a clear understanding of data protection and confidentiality
  • basic Microsoft office skills
  • to be enthusiastic and well-motivated
  • to have patience and be self-efficient
  • to pay attention to detail

What support will I receive?

  • an appropriate induction and training for your volunteering role
  • supervision while undertaking your volunteering task
  • one-to-one support sessions with a named contact within Christian Aid
  • quarterly volunteer e-newsletter
  • out-of-pocket expenses up £12 a day.

Are there any other requirements?

  • you will need to be in sympathy with Christian Aid’s aims to challenge and change the systems that keep people poor
  • you will need to live within travelling distance of a Christian Aid’s London office near Waterloo
