Guidelines on the Supported Driving Scheme

  • The application has to be filled in by the young person’s Social Worker
  • Applications will need to be madebeforethe licence is applied for or lessons
  • booked.
  • The scheme pays in full for;

Provisional licence(payable to DVLA)

Theory test fees(DSA)

Practical test fees(DSA)

  • For the above items, all cheques will be made out to DVLA/Driving Standards Agency. We will require proof of payment to reimburse young people for bookings made online*. (*Funding requests must be made to us and agreed prior to the young person booking the tests online as we do not pay retrospectively).
  • We will pay for the young person’s provisional licence up to 6 weeks before their 17th birthday. We will only pay for a provisional licence if the young person is going to be able to start lessons very soon. We will not pay for a Driving Licence if it is only needed for ID purposes.
  • The Scheme pays for half of the cost of driving lessons. We will only pay £150.00 per application form.
  • The young person has to be in a position to pay for half of their

lessons at the time the application is made.

  • For driving lesson costs, all cheques are made out to the Driving School/Instructor. We will not repay costs to the young person direct or the Social WorkTeam. Again we do not pay retrospectively, all funding requests must be agreed by Corporate Parenting before lessons are taken.
  • If additional lessons are required then a receipt is required from the Driving

School for the first set of lessons we have paid for along with a receipt for lessons the young person has paid for as match funding. These need to be sent in with the new application form.

  • There is no cap on the number of lessons we will part-fund as young people

learn at different speeds. However, the fund for driving lessons is limited

and we won’t necessarily be able to agree to every application.
