2018 application guidelines

1. Purpose of the program

Aiming at the improvement of Waseda University’s international presence, this program subsidizes various expenses related to the publication of research paper posted in the top 10% of journals in each field (ranked according to 2018SCImago Journal rank (SJR) of journals contained in Scopus). In line with Top Global University Project (SGU), established by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), this program willbe operated in anexperimental manner for a limited period of time.

1. Conditions for support

All of the following three conditions must be met:

1)At the time of application, the applicant must have one of the following positions at Waseda University: professor, associate professor, assistant professor, teacher (at affiliated senior high schools), professor (without tenure), associate professor (without tenure), assistant professor (without tenure), research associate, senior researcher, researcher, junior researcher, research assistant and JSPS Research Fellowship for Young Scientist recipient (PD and RPD). Those who are on leave of absence throughout the relevant year are not eligible.

2)The 2018SCImago Journal Rank (SJR) of the journal in which the applicant’s research paper was published must place the journal in the top 10% of the field to which the journal belongs.

3)The applicant must be either first author, corresponding author or last author of the published paper.

4)The applicant can cooperate in overseas research public relations activities by "EurekAlert!*" (In the case of asking for cooperation, the Research Promotion Department will contact you.)

1. Support content

Expenses related to the publication of a paper in the target journal that are covered by the subsidy are posting fees, publishing fees,web publishing fees, open access fees, separate printing or reprinting fees, handling charges, costs of translation to foreign languages and editing, and paper publication support service charges (Journal selection, Peer review, Graphics, Paper posting, Re-posting and related items) . The amount of subsidy is up to one million yen per person per fiscal year, and multiple applications are permissible within the scope of the maximum amount. Detailed conditions for coverage of expenses by the subsidy are as follows:

1)This program is intended to subsidize certain publication expenses, under the condition that the research paper has beenor will definitely be published in the target journal.

2)Among the expenses listed above, publishing fees and web publishing fees are covered if the year in which the fees were charged is FY 2018 (from April 2018 to March 31, 2019). If the year of billing (the year the bill is issued) is in the preceding year or in the following year, the expenses are not covered.

3)Among the expenses listed above, posting fees, separate printing or reprinting fees, handling charges, costs of translation to foreign languages, and editing and paper publishing support service charges are covered if the year in which the fees were charged is FY 2018 (from April 2018 to March 31, 2019) and the relevant paper was published in FY 2018 or will be published in FY 2018 or later.

4)Among the expenses listed above, open access fees are covered even if the paper was published before FY 2018 (but after April 1, 2016). However, the year in which the fees were charged must be FY 2018.

1. Application procedures

Please submit a completed “Application for Support Program for Publicationin High Impact Journals,” along with necessary documents, to the accounting section of your department. After receiving a copy of the document from the accounting section, the Research Promotion Division will screen it and decide the allocation.

1. The companies below apply a 5-10% discount for the applicants who belong to Waseda University and use Waseda’s official email account when they apply. Please be noted that some academic areas may be out of scope of the companies due to its expertise. Please refer to the details of the services at the websites or ask them directly.
