SUPERVISION CONTRACT

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

To provide an opportunity for the worker to plan, prioritise, monitor and evaluate their work in a supportive relationship by:

Clarifying tasks, duties, responsibilities, and resources.

Setting performance targets.

Identifying the standards of performance required.

Understanding the policy framework within which they are carrying out their work.

Considering the implications and potential outcomes of alternative courses of action.

Reflecting on the demand the job is having on their personal and practical resources.

Monitoring the workload.

Giving and receiving feedback on outcomes and performance.

Identifying training and development needs.

Modelling good practice.

Considering personal issues which are affecting work.

THE GROUND RULES

Time will be set aside for supervision on a regular basis and will have highest priority. Supervision will take place every week.

Confidentiality will be guaranteed between the supervisee, the supervisor and the supervisors line manager. The supervisee can share the content of any of their own sessions with whosoever they wish as long as this does not breech any other procedure on confidientiality. The supervisors line managers can see supervision notes.

The supervisor and supervisee will each keep a copy of the record sheet showing what has been discussed and agreed in each session.

A rolling agenda will be established with the agreement of both parties. This can, and will, be reviewed regularly, at the instigation of both parties. A change to the agenda should be agreed at least two days ahead of a session wherever possible. Additional items can be included if agreed at the beginning of a session to be a priority.

Cancellation of sessions should be minimised. If a session is cancelled a new time and date should be set as soon as possible.

SUPERVISION CONTRACT

Frequency:Meetings to be held weekly

Location:Should be somewhere quiet where interruptions can be kept to a minimum – Manager’s Office.

Duration of session:1 hour.

All information between supervisor and supervisee will be treated with respect and in a professional manner.

Record Keeping:A supervision record will be kept for each session. Both supervisor and supervisee to retain a copy of these records which will be signed and dated by both.

Agenda:Both supervisor and supervisee will agree to a rolling agenda which can be reviewed at the request (and with agreement) of both parties.

Preparation

for Supervision:Both parties have the right to expect that each will come to the session prepared for the topics on the agenda. This means that both parties should come to the session with all the relevant files and documents that have been worked on since the previous session.

Commitment:Commitment to contracted arrangements should be a responsibility shared between supervisor and supervisee and should form an agenda item from time to time.

Disagreements:Areas of disagreement between supervisor and supervisee will be recorded in the supervision records. Areas of disagreement that cannot be resolved will be referred to the line manager.
