English / We read a beautiful book called ‘Jemmy Button’ this term. Children focus on genres such as poetry and diary entries and discuss issues such as immigration and human rights.

Visit the world museum to learn about other cultures.

Maths / Our work this term will focus largely on data collection and handling. We will be collecting, displaying and analysing data in a range of ways and starting to interpret graphs and charts to find information.
In Summer 2, we have the opportunity to revise all of the hard work we have done in Year 3… helping us to prepare for Year 4! / Cross-curricular science
Ideas for the weekends –
Go to Sefton Park and collect data from the trees and plants you find. Can you present your data in a bar chart or tally chart?
Science / Our unit for the term is Human Health and Fitness. Children will learn about a healthy diet and the effects of exercise on the body. They will learn about the respiratory, cardiovascular, skeletal and muscular systems and find out about oral health and hygiene. Importantly, children will investigate the effects of caffeine, alcohol and smoking on human health. Finally we will explore the digestive system and how it processes nutrients… and waste!
This term the children will be focusing on analysing and evaluating data from their experiments. / Sports scientist

Ideas for the weekends –
Go for a run with an adult from home. Monitor your heart rate before, during and after. What do you notice?
Art / Our art this term is about patterns and textures – we will be making artwork using textiles and dyes. / Visit to the Walker Art Gallery

Make your own fabric dies at home using onion skills (yellow), red cabbage (purple) or beetroot (red).
DT / In DT, we will be using the textiles we made in our art unit to design and make lampshades which we will then take home! / Ideas for the weekends –
Practice applique by sewing scraps of fabric onto old t-shirts to up-cycle them!
History / In History, we are travelling back in time to the Egyptian Era! As part of our studies of this ancient civilization, we will be learning about mummification and hieroglyphics! / Lampshades from our homes

Visit the world museum to learn about the Ancient Egyptians.
Geography / Our Geography studies this term are about the Desert. There will be lots of cross curricular links to History and Science!
We will be doing additional work on OS maps, learning about the different symbols and how to use them. The children will be planning their own walking routes for Darwen Tower, Dawen and Cardingmill Valley, Church Stretton. / Dawen Tower, Darwen

RE / The new term begins with ‘Energy’, followed by ‘Choices’.
In Summer 2, we spend a week studying Judaism! We will take a trip to the Synagogue and learn about places that are special to Jewish people.
The year ends with our topic ‘Special Places’. / Princess Road Synagogue

Spanish / The children have a busy term learning how to count and how to say the days of the week and months of the year in Spanish.
