Summer Boot Camp Classes 2015

Title: AP English Orientation Cost: $27

The purpose of the AP English Orientation is for Advanced Placement students to become familiar with reading, writing, and analytical thinking skills expected in an AP English class. AP English Language and Composition (junior year) and AP English Literature and Composition (senior year) will initially meet in a large group and then break into workshops led by AP English teachers from Lake Park. Students will become familiar with the respective AP Language and Literature tests. Teachers will outline and model expectations for summer reading assignments. This course is open to incoming juniors enrolled in AP Language and Comp (juniors) and AP Literature and Comp (seniors) students.

Title: Introduction to Engineering Communication & Concepts Cost: $54

An introductory course in engineering basics involving engineering concepts and the engineering design process. Students are introduced and trained in the areas of two- and three-dimensional computer software modeling/design as well as 3D Printing. Participating students will be using the same software as NASA, Intel, and Apple. Students will also be involved in the manufacturing and fabrication of projects using our newest lab technology, the SHOPBOT.

Title: AP Human Geography Cost: $54

AP Human is a college level class that is taught on the college level. The textbook is written on a “college sophomore” level and it is assumed that students have quite a bit of background knowledge entering the class. Comprehension of Geography “Themes” is the approach of the course whereas most other Geography courses use a “Regional” approach. Students will learn the Basics of Geography, Population Issues, Cultural Issues (Language, Religion, Race), Political Issues, Agriculture and Industrial Development, Urban Growth and Environmental Concerns. These topics are woven together as the class examines how one impacts the other.

Dates: June 15-18 Time: 7:30 a.m.-12 noon Room: 192 EC

Title: Math is Fun: Algebra 2 Honors Level Cost: $108

This class is designed to increase algebraic skills, provide connections via story problems, increase communication skills, analyze common algebraic errors, learn how to write about mathematics, and increase graphing calculator knowledge. Each day of camp will have a theme, and each day there will be direct instruction, learning activities, group work, individual question time, and a contest/game.

Math is Fun will integrate problems to prepare students for the type of questions they will see on the new series of state tests. Common Core standards will drive the curriculum for this summer option. This class will also address summer packet topics to prepare for the beginning of year mastery quiz. Individual tutoring offered from 7:30 a.m-8:00 a.m. and from 11:30 a.m.-12 noon every day.

Title: AP Biology Success Camp Cost: $36

Students will review biology and chemistry topics in preparation for future success in AP Biology. Topics covered will include: Study Skills Required for Success in AP Biology, An Introduction to Inquiry and Experimental Design, The AP Biology Lab Presentation, Mastering the AP Biology Exam, A Review of Microscopes, Biochemistry Basics, and Cellular Biology.

Title: AP Spanish Language & Culture Bridge Cost: $42

This course is required for juniors or seniors who have successfully completed Spanish 3 and wish to take Spanish AP Language & Culture as their next World Language course. This enrichment course is designed to bridge the gap between Spanish 3 and AP, covering important concepts from the Spanish 4 curriculum, as well as exposing students to AP style reading, writing, and discussion in the target language. Students may receive work to complete prior to the start of this course.

Summer Boot Camp Registration Form

Lake Park will be offering six Boot Camp classes this summer at East Campus. The classes are designed to provide enrichment and a sound foundation in different subject areas. All classes are offered on a non-credit basis. Classes will run depending on enrollment; therefore, a full refund will be processed if classes are cancelled due to low enrollment.
