IV THERAPY RN

SUMMARY OF POSITION:Responsible for the administration of medication at the physician’s

request, using knowledge regarding medication and appropriate administration techniques.

DEPARTMENT:Rheumatology, Infusion Center

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Physician and Practice Manger DRESS CODE:Medical

MAJOR DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Prepare medication upon orders by physician for administration to patient.

2.Adhere to aseptic technique.

3.Obtain history, drug allergies, current medications, any illness or surgery, and vital signs from

patient.

4.Document vital signs, treatment, and medications, to include side effects.

5.Educate patient regarding visit, treatment, side effects, insurance requirements, and assistance

available.

6.Perform duties accurately and willingly when requested.

7.Answer telephone calls and

a.Take message if appropriate and document

b.Schedule appointment if needed

8.Assure scheduling and results received of required labs before medication administered.

9.Adjust schedules according to physician request.

10.Maintain a safe a quiet environment for the patients.

11.Assist physicians Medical Assistants as needed in administering medication.

12.Knowledgeable in verification of insurance coverage and benefits for medications, assistance

available to patients, and checking balances.

13.Assist in the expedient turnover of medication administration.

14.Notify patients of unexpected delays in their appointment; offer to reschedule when appropriate.

15.Serve as a resource person when the need arises.

16.Complete department charge slips with appropriate CPT/ICD-10 codes as submits for data entry

on a timely basis.

17.Order medications and supplies as necessary, maintaining inventory per department needs.

18.Other duties as assigned.

DEMONSTRATE A POSITIVE ATTITUDE. Interact with all patients, visitors, and co-workers in a professional and upbeat manner. Be courteous, respectful, friendly, and helpful. Express yourself and your concerns using helpful words versus confrontational words or profanity. If you are unable to maintain a positive approach, remove yourself from the situation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.Demonstrated customer-service skills.

2.Be a person of integrity and character, willing to embrace change and make a positive impact in the lives of patients and co-workers.

3.Ability to work with staff members at all levels of the organization in a cooperative, team-oriented manner.

4.Minimum education requirement: graduate of Registered Nursing program.

5.Certified and licensed by the your state as a Registered Nurse.

6.Ability to work in close proximity with co-workers and maintain a professional attitude.

7.Ability to remain calm and professional regardless of the workload or time constraints.

8.Ability to perform physical labor, including, but not limited to: holding, stooping, kneeling, and occasional lifting for an extended period of time.

9.Proficient in use of computer, telephone, fax, and general office equipment.

10.Proficient in use of English language in both written and verbal communication. Must be able to communicate with individuals of various socio-economic backgrounds.
