Linda Ivell from Business Westinformed the group of the support available to retailers from Skills West.The organisation provides a wide range of free services including financial management, recruitment, apprenticeship and much more, assisting businesses in navigating an often complicated skills landscape. One to one meetingsare available.

    This included:
  • Review of Easter activities and advertising
  • Mystery shopping and Retailer Awards

  • Progress of new Bristol Shopping Quarter website
  • Employee app – offers for people working in Broadmead, The Arcade & The Galleries
  • Bristol Post Business Awards – BID sponsoring Retailer of the Year and Summer of Sport entered in Marketing Campaign of the Year
  • Planning for Summer
  • Luke Jerram’s street piano ‘Play me, I’m Yours’
  • Contactless giving points to support Bristol’s homeless shelters – located near Tesco and Primark
  • Maintenance and wayfinding, including: A3 maps, static signage, blue balls, hanging baskets

  1. The Galleries update
  • One great Day 10thJune:Fundraising event for Great Ormond St hospital. Will also involveChildren’s Hospice South West. Lots of activity are planned for fundraising in The Galleries. All retailers are welcome tojoin in by helping cover the distance between CHSW & Great Ormond St hospital on exercise equipment loaned by The Gym.
  • Pirate Events starting 21stJuly:Dates coinciding with The Harbour festival to make the most of the increased footfall.Details to be confirmed but activity may come out into Broadmead.
  • Summer: Free children’s activity each week for 4 weeks, starting Thursday 27th July.

  1. The Arcade update
  • New lease recently agreed on an empty unit on The Horsefair; it is hoped that other units will be taken in the near future
  • Christmas: 365 Bristol are looking at the possibility of organising a grotto.
  1. Cabot Circus update
  • Superhero event on 2nd June
  • Jobs Fair event on 8th June
  • Discount shopping event on 15th June
  • Wimbledon event (big screen / deck chairs) in Quakers Friars, 3rd – 16th July
  • Summer – food themed events
  1. Cleansing and Maintenance
  • BID funds enhanced cleansing
  • Retailers reminded to notify BID team of any issues regarding graffiti, overflowing bins, rough sleepers, damaged street furniture etc.

  • Retailers mentioned there was a lack of atmosphere at the last Christmas market
    Action: Jo to pass on the feedback to Cabot Circus
