SUFFOLK COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2017
Twenty seven swimmers qualified for the County Championships this year, Eloise Albins, Brooke Flower, Paige Flower, Emily Gray, Faye Hermon, Rosie Howes, Jessica Keeble, Katimai Leighton, Jess Read, Charlie Smith, Frankie Tyler, Megan Watts, Caitlyn White, Mia Wright, Mia Yates, Beth Young, Brendan Bennett, Thomas Boyt, Fin Cook, Sam Davies, Tim Davies, Ryan Eagles, Stuart Evans, Lewis Meadows, Charlie Phillips, Nick Rowdon and Isaac Williams. Many of our swimmers had multiple County times, of a possible 17 events the following swimmers achieved, Beth Young 8 times, Charlie Smith & Mia Yates 9 times, Stuart Evans 10 times, Frankie Tyler 11 times, Faye Hermon 16 times and Thomas Boyt 17 times.
Racing started on Saturday 21st January at Norwich with session 1 being the long distance events, Mia Yates, Charlie Smith & Faye Hermon swam the 800m freestyle, all strong swims with Mia achieving a 16 second pb, than Thomas swam the 1500m freestyle with a 8 second pb.
The main sessions of the Counties started at Crown Pools on Saturday 4thFebruary, there were 2 solid weekends of racing, with a break then the 400m freestyle and relays on the 26th February to finish the championships.
Session 2 kicked off with the girls 100 Butterfly, Frankie Tyler, Beth Young, Paige Flower, Charlie Smith & Faye
Hermon swam this event, with most of the swims pb’s and Beth, Charlie & Faye making the finals. Then it was the
boys 100 back, Lewis Meadows and Thomas Boyt swam this event Lewis swam a 9 second pb, while Thomas just
outside his pb made the finals. The girls 50 freestyle was next this was the event with the most entries, Mia Wright,
Rosie Howes, Katimai Leighton, Megan Watts, Caitlyn White, Emily Gray, Jessica Keeble, Beth Young, Frankie Tyler,
Paige Flower, Charlie Smith, Jess Read, Brooke Flower, Mia Yates & Faye Hermon all swam and 9 of the 15 swims
werepb’s with Beth, Mia Yates & Faye making the finals. Next was the 50 breaststroke with Thomas getting a pb in
his swim. The girls 400IM was next with Charlie Smith taking to the pool and winning the first medal for Felixstowe
of the championships, a gold in her age group. The last event of the morning was the boys 200m fly which Thomas
swam in. Then it was finals time in the 100 fly Beth came 2nd in her age group and got her regional time, Charlie was
7th and Faye 5th. Next was Thomas in the 100 back where he came 5th. Then the 50 free finals Beth, Mia and Faye
came 7th, 8th & 8th respectively.
Session 3 started with the girls 50 fly, Mia Wright, Frankie Tyler, Beth Young, Paige Flower, Charlie Smith & Faye
Hermon took to the pool with Beth Young getting a 3 second pb and a regional time, with Beth & Faye reaching the
finals. Next was the 50 back for boys Lewis, Isaac, Ryan & Thomas all achieved pb’s with Lewis making the finals.
The girls 100 IM was next Mia Y, Beth, Charlie & Faye swam with Mia & Beth achieving pb’s and Beth winning a silver
medal. Next was the boys 200m breast Thomas getting a small pb. The girls 200 back followed with Frankie
swimming a 6 sec. pb and Faye just outside hers. The day finished with the 50 fly finals Beth gained another regional
time and won a silver medal while Faye came 7th.Lewis then swam in the 50 back and came 2nd getting a silver
medal his swim was just outside a regional time.
Session 4 started with Beth & Mia swimming the 100 breast, Beth making the finals and another regional time. Next
was the boys 100 free, Lewis, Ryan and Thomas all swam pb times. The girls 200 free was next, Caitlyn, Frankie, Mia
& Faye swam with Frankie getting a pb. The 200 IM ended the main session with a small pb for Thomas. Beth then
swam in the final of the 100 breast, coming 1st and knocking more time from her pb.
The second weekend started with Brendan, Ryan & Thomas swimming the 100 fly, both Brendan & Ryan gained pb’s
while Thomas made the finals. The girls were up next with Frankie and Faye swimming 100 back, Frankie getting a
pb and both girls making the finals. Next was the boys 50 free with Nick, Lewis, Isaac, Charlie, Tim, Brendan, Sam,
Ryan, Stuart & Thomas swimming with all but one being a pb, Lewis made the finals. The girls 50 breast was next
with Frankie, Beth, Mia, Brooke & Faye swimming, Beth got another pb and made the finals. Thomas swam the boys
400 IM and Charlie the girls 200 fly winning a bronze medal to finish the main session. In the finals 100 fly Thomas
came 6th, Frankie & Faye 100 back came 5th & 7th respectively, Lewis in the 50 free came 8th, and finally Beth in the
50 breast won a gold and improved on her regional time, after that swim Beth was 3rd place in the Country at 50
breast stroke.
Session 6 began with the boys 50 fly Ryan, Brendan, Stuart & Thomas all put in strong swims with 3 out of 4 pb’s and
Thomas gaining a regional time and place in the final. Then the girls took to the pool for the 50 back Frankie, Charlie
& Faye gaining 2 out of 3 pb’s and Frankie getting a place in the final. Then it was the boys 100IM with Ryan and
Thomas swimming and Ryan again getting a pb. The next event we had swimmers in was the boys 200 back Isaac
and Thomas both achieved pb’s with Thomas bettering his regional time and winning a bronze medal. Then came
the girls 50 back finals with Frankie putting in another pb swim and coming 6th, then Thomas in the 50 fly getting
another small pb and coming 7th.
Session 7 started with the boys 100 breaststroke with Thomas gaining a small pb and final place. Then came the girls
100 freestyle with Beth, Frankie, Mia & Faye swimming, Beth & Frankie gained pb’s and Beth, Frankie & Mia getting
final places. The boys 200 free was next with Thomas and Stuart both gaining pb’s. Then came the girls 200 IM,
Frankie, Beth, Mia, Charlie & Faye all swam with Beth & Charlie achieving pb’s and Beth winning a silver medal. The
finals finished the session with Thomas coming 7th in the 100 breast, then the girls 100 free with Beth winning a
bronze medal and Frankie & Mia both coming 8th.
After a weeks break we were back at Crown Pools for the final day of the championships on Sunday 26th February.
The morning was the 400m free events for both the girls and boys. Frankie, Mia, Faye, Stuart & Thomas were
swimming for Felixstowe with Frankie, Stuart & Thomas achieving pb’s.
Before the relay events began there were age group presentations, Beth was 3rd in her age group in Suffolk over the
whole competition and was awarded a lovely glass trophy. Other swimmers finishing in the top twelve in their age
groups were, Frankie Tyler 8th 12 year old, Mia Yates 11th 14 year old, Faye Hermon 8th 17 & over, Ryan Eagles 9th 16
year old & Thomas Boyt 12th 17 & over.
The afternoon saw the relay events we had teams in 7 events with Beth Young, Frankie Tyler, Jessica Keeble, Emily
Gray, Caitlyn White, Mia Yates, Jess Read, Charlie Smith, Christine Evans, Lauren Mazur, Rebecca Archer, Faye
Hermon, Ryan Eagles, Sam Davies, Stuart Evans & Thomas Boyt. Every swimmer put in a great performance and did
the club proud with 5 of the 7 swims being quicker than the entry times.
The team spirit over the whole championships was fantastic with plenty of support for all our swimmers from each
other and all the parents.
