Job Title: Practice Educator

Job Summary
Develop, lead and implement the Hospice Education and Training plan based on the Sue Ryder Care, Learning, Development and Workforce Strategy, in liaison with Centre Manager, staff and the Quality and Learning Manager. This post has a responsibility for supporting staff and enabling practice development based on best available evidence. The post holder will be expected to income generate by marketing and delivering palliative and end of life care training to external purchasers.
Clinical Responsibilities
· Support practice development to enhance the skills and knowledge of clinical staff to promote and facilitate improvements in practice and to improve the experience of service users and their families
· Liaise with external organizations and professional bodies to provide practice placements as appropriate, manage and support the learning experience of students on placement in partnership with link lecturers and mentors and Primary Care Trust initiatives.
· Identify, support, train and develop mentors and assessors to support clinical staff and students on placement
· Work flexibly to support the developmental needs of all staff, including medical, support staff and volunteers
· Develop and deliver palliative and end of life care training programmes to external purchasers for health and social care staff
· Participate, as required, in the provision of out of hours clinical support/ and 1st on-call activities
Clinical/governance and quality
· Ensure that training to enhance the quality of care is provided for all staff
· Ensure that education and training is delivered to meet learning needs and that the learning is then imbedded into practice by developing programmes to evaluate and monitor progress
· Manage a training and education programme for all Hospice staff, with the aim of developing the work force to enhance their skills and knowledge to ensure that a responsive high quality service is delivered
· Create a culture of continuous learning within the Hospice as a means to develop individuals’ skills and confidence in practice
· Work effectively and in partnership with other training providers to develop effective relationships
· Ensure all training is evaluated against the requirements of the individual and the organization
· Encourage and support research, audit and evidence based practice and an atmosphere of research awareness within the Hospice.
· Encourage staff to disseminate their research projects at conferences and by publication
· Undertake peer review of own teaching at least once a year
Managerial Responsibilities
· Liaise with the Hospice Management Team and Sue Ryder Care Clinical Services Management Team to set achievable targets
· Plan and coordinate training in line with the Hospice training and education programme
· Participate in the promotion of the Hospice’s services within the wider context of specialist care, both locally and nationally.
· Work within agreed financial resources, to manage the annual training budget
· Identify and apply for funding opportunities through the PCT’s for Palliative and End of Life Care education initiatives
· Ensure effective communication and liaison with other departments in the Hospice and with Sue Ryder Care centrally
· Promote the sharing of best practice initiatives locally and organisationally
· Collate and address learning needs identified at staff appraisals and reviews
· Actively market Palliative and End of Life Care training to external purchasers
· Generating an income stream through delivery of Palliative and End of Life Care training to external purchasers
· Work collaboratively with the Health and Safety Trainers and the RCN Learning Representatives
· Actively participate in PCT Palliative and End of Life Care Education Groups
Education, Training and Development
· Produce an annual training plan and report on all training and development activity within the Hospice
· Facilitate/ deliver effective specialist education, in Palliative and end of Life care as required to achieve the annual training plan
· Ensure the implementation and recording of staff induction programmes, mandatory and priority training through the achievement of the ‘Passport to Practice’ for all staff
· Support staff undertaking study and enable staff to access appropriate learning experiences
· Be responsible for the effective coordination of the training programme within the Hospice
· Maintain up to date training records for all staff on sharepoint
· Act as an information and educational resource to all members of the multi-professional team
· Maintain own continuous professional development, update skills and knowledge and respond to internal and external drivers for education and training

Experience in teaching and learning in healthcare at level 2 and 3.
Experience of managing/monitoring a budget

Excellent organisational and communication skills
