3. Justification For Departure (Include Positive And Negative Impacts)
3.1 Safety:Road Safety Audits comments to be included
The effects that the proposed departure may have on road safety, include positive and negative impacts, i.e. shorter stopping distance.
3.2 Environmental/Sustainability:
Any environmental or sustainable issues that may be beneficial due to the proposed departure, i.e. retained trees or less materials used. Disadvantages should also be listed such as additional retaining wall.
3.3 Accessibility:
Consideration given to NMU’s and local transport services. Any savings or increases in journey times and queue lengths for all users including NMU’s.
3.4 Maintenance:
Any advantages or disadvantages to future maintenance compared to providing a design to standard, i.e. increased length of High Friction Surfacing
3.5 Construction Programme:
Any time savings or increases to the construction programme and traffic management when compared to a standard design.
3.6 Cost:
Approximation of savings when compared to proving a standard design. (£,000)
3.7 Consultants Mitigation
Measures included within the design to alleviate matters described above, i.e. longer length of High Friction Surfacing or sustainable products such as Glass Sand.
