SUBJECT:FCMU Staff RN - Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Licensed Professional Nurse (RN) is a practitioner responsible for assessing, planning, prioritizing, organizing, administering, and evaluating patient care for a group of patients on the Family Centered Maternity Unit. The RN shall be personally accountable and responsible for cooperation with the unit management in the coordination of patient care and services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible to perform within the rules and regulations of Idaho State Board of Nursing
- Observe strict ethical guidelines in regard to confidentiality
- Provide prompt care to patient requests with empathy and genuine interest
- Identify safety concerns and implement necessary safety protocols
- Effective response to crisis situations
- Initiate care plan according to timeframes established in unit policy
- Assessment skills and techniques to assess the perinatal/neonatal patient
- Delegates care to team members based on complexity; staff education and competency; State Regulations; BGH policy and procedures and Joint Commission standards
- Maintain established BGH policies and procedures and protocols in nursing department worked
- Supports the philosophy, objectives, and goals of the nursing department and hospital
- Willingness to participate in continuing education to meet own professional development needs
- Maintains necessary credentialing (see Job Specifications)
- Maintains strict confidentiality regarding knowledge of all patient information (HIPAA), staff and confidential hospital business
- Responsible for establishing and maintaining healthy interpersonal relationships with all staff members.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- BGH maintains the right to establish work schedules and to be ensured of employee’s attendance when scheduled. Maintaining regular attendance and punctuality is a required Essential Function of this position
- Maintains licenses and certifications necessary to perform the job functions, and as required by State and hospital policies
- The nurse is responsible for decisions and actions within the domain of nursing practice
- Systematic use of nursing process to meet the patient's needs
- Individualized nursing care is best achieved by collaboration with the patient, family, and other members of the health care team
- Recognizes the important part this position plays in Performance Improvement of the on-going delivery of care, as outlined in the Bonner General Health Mission Statement

Complete and accurate documentation of all nursing care and patient response is essential for
continuity of care and for meeting legal requirements
For maintaining knowledge and competency in their individual nursing practice
For executing nursing care in compliance with unit policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of care
For providing unit assistance during high census times
For providing health education directed toward assisting the patient and family to adjust to their changing roles
To the antepartal patient for promoting optimal outcome for the woman and her fetus
To the intrapartum patient for promoting a physically safe and emotionally satisfying labor and delivery experience for the mother, baby, and family
To the postpartum patient for promoting optimal health potential for the woman both physically and emotionally
To the neonate to provide support in transition to extrauterine life and facilitating integration into the family unit

BGH operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. The operational needs of departments and safety of patients may require that employees beavailable to work all shifts,weekends and holidays and in any department to meet the needs of the patients.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
- Skills:
Ability to read, write legibly and comprehend the written and spoken word in English
Basic computer literacy and ability to effectively learn new software programs required
Must demonstrate an understanding of post anesthesia care of the patient who has undergone a
C-section birth
- Education: Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program
- Experience: Minimum graduate nurse of accredited professional nursing program
- License/Certification:
Current State of Idaho RN license
Current CPR certification
ACLS, STABLE, NRP, EFM preferredor obtained within six (6) months from date of hire
- Supervisory: None
- Supervised by:Nurse Manager; in absence of Nurse Manager, supervised by Hospital Supervisor
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Job allows employee to vary physical position or activity for comfort
