Subeditor-production coordinator(30 hours per week)

General description
This position is within the Wellington-based magazine production team. This position assists in content editing for print and online, and is responsible for the efficient planning andproduction of Consumer magazine. The production coordinator also works on photo-editing images for our website and other publications.
The subeditor-production coordinator is responsible for assisting and overseeing magazine production,supporting and assisting the chief content editor and graphic designer as required.
The subeditor-production coordinator must have the ability to managemultipletasks at the same time and work with a minimum of supervision. Accuracy,initiative and attention to detail are essential.
Specific duties
- Assisting in photography production - sourcing props, coordinating photographers; liaising with editors, writers and the graphic designer about imagery;downloading product images and resizing for online; and managing expenditure within budgets.
- Being an active contributor to the editing process:
- Subediting content to a high standard. Communicating progress, including any potential issues, to the chief content editor, writers and relevant department head
- Monitoring page proofs and maintaining production schedules to ensure written and photographic deadlines are met
- Applying editing changes, correcting and progressing proofs to final sign-off
- Proof reading
- Creating tables and image processing in InDesign and Photoshop
- Communicating magazine processes, including any potential issues, to the chief content editor and the graphic designer
- Assisting in sourcing images, coordinating props, models, designer and photographer for shoots.
- Being an active contributor to the magazine production process
- Assisting Consumer’s online department with photo processing and uploading content when required
- Providing, when required, assistance and guidance to other staff
- Any other duties that may be allocated from time to time.
General attributes and background
The position requires a person with judgment, maturity and initiative. The role of the subeditor-production coordinator can be a fluid one, with the successful applicant being able to perform their duties efficiently.
Relevant experience working at a magazine or newsroom is desirable but not a key requirement.The successful candidate must have a current New Zealand driver’s licence.
