200mm thick concrete F92 reinforcement on 75mm Class 3 FCR
80mm Clay brick on 25mm sand bedding
85mm primed layer Class 2 F.C.R.
165mm 2% cement stabilised Class 3 F.C.R. / The majority of road failures in the Hobsons Bay area result from earth movement (swelling or shrinkage) vehicle loading criteria being less significant. This earth movement is familiar in the highly reactive balsaltic clays of the Williamstown, Newport and Altona North areas and the effect lessens towards the west. Current pavement profiles are effective and will be maintained as the AustRoads guidelines do not address this problem. A CSFCR layer is necessary to prevent the fine clay particles from the subgrade migrating through the pavement. This sealing of the base has been recommended by independent geological consultants.
