Students Will Then Need to Complete 2 Additional Units from Below;

The coreessential units are:

Unit 1: The UK Travel and Tourism Sector – this unit covers the main types of tourism in the UK, the contribution that travel and tourism makes to the UK economy and the different component industries that make up the UK travel and tourism sector. (EXAM)

Unit 2: UK Travel and Tourism Destinations – this unit covers what the different types of UK destinations have to offer, as well as locating tourist UK destinations and routes.

Students will then need to complete 2 additional units from below;

Unit 4: International Travel and Tourism Destinations – which looks at

international travel and tourism destinations and gateways and reasons for

their appeal to different visitors.

Unit 5: Factors Affecting Worldwide Travel and Tourism – covers the influential factors on tourism and why events such as natural disasters can have a significant impact on the sector.

Unit 6: The Travel and Tourism Customer Experience – which looks at the needs and expectations of different types of customer in the travel and tourism sector and how organisations address these.

  • Camping (location to be confirmed)

Assessment

  • Unit 1: The UK Travel and Tourism Sector – Exam externally assessed

-This unit is assessed externally using a paper-based exam marked by Edexcel.

-The exam will be 60 minutes.

-Students will take this exam in January but they are unsuccessful or want to gain a higher grade, they can re-sit the exam in June.

  • All other units are coursework and will be internally assessed.
  • All units will be assessed and marked with the following outcome opportunity;

-Level 1 Pass (E/D grade GCSE equivalent)

-Level 2 Pass (C grade GCSE equivalent)

-Level 2 Merit (B grade GCSE equivalent)

-Level 2 Distinction (A grade GCSE equivalent)

Progression opportunities

  • The BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Award in Travel and Tourism provides the skills, knowledge and understanding for level 2 learners to progress to:
  • other level 2 vocational qualifications
  • level 3 vocational qualifications, such as BTEC Nationals specifically the EdexcelBTEC Level 3 in Travel and Tourism (QCF)
  • related academic qualifications
  • employment within the travel and tourism industry, for example posts in travel agencies, visitor attractions and the tourist information centre.
  • Learners who achieve the qualification at Level 1 may progress to related level 2vocational or academic qualifications, such as BTECs or GCSEs.
