The Call of the Wild Final Project

Students should pick one of the below options.

ALL PROJECTS ARE DUE ON Monday February 13th

  1. Illustrated Timeline

Students should create a timeline that includes 10 major events. Students should describe each event in a paragraph- 6-8 sentences in length along with an illustration that represents the event. These should be plotted in chronological order on a timeline (See Mrs. Atiee-Early for paper). Illustrations should be colorful and hand drawn by the student.

  1. Alternative Ending

Students should rewrite the final chapter of the book. For this assignment, pretend that the publisher of The Call of the Wild does not care for the ending of the story, believing that it leaves the reader with too negative a feeling. You are to begin your new ending with Buck returning to the camp. He still smells that something is going on, but it is not the death of his master, Thornton. This chapter should be 3-4 pages typed, double spaced.

  1. Literary Interview

This report is done in pairs. One student pretends to be a character in the story. The other student will play the role of a television or radio interviewer, providing the audience with insights into the character’s personality and life. It is the responsibility of the partners to create meaningful questions and appropriate responses. Students should create an interview script with 15 questions and responses. They should also open up the interview to audience members. Students should dress appropriately for the roles.

  1. Dramatizing a favorite Scene

This report will be in a small group of 4-5 students maximum. This may be filmed or live. Once you assemble your group, you will need to decide which of the many scenes from the book you want to present to the class. Keep in mind what is involved in the scene and from that determine how many parts there are to be played, both the characters and the props. For instance, the river might be represented by a cloth or two people lying on the floor. They can simulate the rapids by roaring and raising up on their hands and knees from time to time. After you have picked your scene, you will rewrite it in the form of a script so it can be dramatized. A typed copy of the script should be turned in to Mrs. Atiee-Early. The next step is the fun part! You need to pick members from your group to play the various parts of scene and to practice the scene. You will present your video or act to the class on Monday , February 16 ( if you are planning on filming this it must be burned onto a dvd or playable on a laptop. Each member of the group must also write a one paragraph reflection on their experience.

Students must select a final project by Monday February 6th.

Please see Mrs. Atiee-Early with any questions or concerns!
