SHOW Requirements:

Students MUST attend the tech and dress rehearsals along with attending each performance. Tech/Dressrehearsals are March 24th-26th and April 1st-4th, withfull dress rehearsals on April 7th-10th. Show dates are April 11th, 12th and 13th. Students will also be expected to help “strike the set” (clean-up) after the April 10th performance and turn in their scripts at this time.

Rehearsals:

Weekdays, schedule varies but usual rehearsal times are 2:30-5:30 or 6:00pm- a schedule has been given to students and will be available online. Note: calendar is subject to change. Please text 513-327-2010 with the message @ElginSOM for the latest and most up-to-date information.

Attendance Policy:

Putting on a show takes a lot of time, energy, and commitment for everyone involved. By accepting any role, students are agreeing that rehearsals and performances are a priority. Rehearsals are successful for a cast and crew when all members are present. The whole cast is effected when someone is absent!Students are expected to attend every rehearsal for which they are called and be dressed and ready by the call time.If a student misses part or all of a rehearsal, the student is responsible for learning the material that he or she missed via another student or the director. The student will be required to learn the materialbefore the next rehearsal, on his/her own time.Students will need to inform the directorahead of any date on which they will be absent, arriving late, or leaving early. In this case, please email or write a note to Miss Bowsher. Work is not an excuse to miss rehearsal.Communication between the students, parents and the director is very important; please be truthful to the director. If there is a scheduling concern, please talk with the directors to find a solution. It is possible that the directorcan be flexible with certain rehearsal dates. The director reserves the right to change the schedule, but notification of any changes will be provided by the director as soon as possible. If three or more rehearsals are missed, student may be in jeopardy of losing specifics role in the show. Please be in attendance!

Line/Music/Choreography Memorization:

Students are expected to practice lines, lyrics, blocking, and choreography outside of rehearsal and be completely memorized by March 3rd. Before coming to rehearsal, students are responsible to be familiar with the scenes; in addition to lines and/or songs they will be rehearsing that day. Consequences for not meeting the deadline(s) will be evaluated on an individual basis.

Company Behavior:

Elgin musicals have been blessed with responsible, respectful, and talented students! Keep in mind that each student is expected to follow the Code of Conduct. While the directors know this is a high school musical production, we feel that the students should behave in a professional manner and be respectful to each other, the director, and the art of performing. Poor behavior will not be tolerated including negative attitudes, directing/criticizing other cast members, negative social media posts, or not making full individual effort. Failure to behave appropriately will carry consequences on an individual basis. A meeting with the director will occur to determine what action will be taken.

Grades:

Students must have passing grades in all classes in order to take part in EHS musicals, per district eligibility requirements. The director may contact the students’ teachers as needed to maintain our high academic expectations. If a student is FAILING they must notify Miss Bowsher ASAP. The musical can also be a great support group to bring grades up! Students are encouraged to bring homework and study materials to work on when not needed during a rehearsal.

Participation Cost and Script Care:

All company members are required to pay $25 (Youth - $15) to participate in the musical. This cost covers use of script, costumes, props, set materials, and other costs associated with the production. Businesses and family members may also choose to donate more (please see attached sheet for more details). High school students will be given a script/score from Rogers and Hammerstein Theatricals and are expected to keep scripts in original new condition. Students may only write in their scripts lightly with a pencil and must completely erase any notes at the conclusion of the production. If scripts are not returned by the closing date, Sunday, April 13th, and/or if scripts are returned in unacceptable condition, students will be assessed a fee determined by the director according to standards set by the company.

Parent Involvement:

Parent involvement is crucial to any production. The director encourages parents to help their student’s program in any way they can. The main parent meeting will be Tuesday, February 25th at 6:30 p.m. Email will be very helpful in keeping the students and parents informed and involved. Students are also strongly encouraged to have one adult volunteer to help with our many requirements and production needs. This can be for a small volunteer position or a bigger role!I cannot express how thankful the director, cast, and crew are to helpful and supportive family volunteers. Parent and adult support for our program on stage and behind the scenes is one of the most valuable things for Elgin Musical Productions.

A FEW ideas on how parents can help:

Costumes, PR (paint the town, business ads, posters, local media), programs, set building/painting, backstage, fundraisers, ticket creation and sales, hair and make-up, silent auction, raffles, donations, dinner theater preparation, set-up and clean up, props, and MORE!

Program advertisements are available for purchase to businesses and community members. PLEASE ask any business owners you know to purchase an advertisement in our program and to support our show!Costs for advertisements are as follows: $15 for business card size, $25 for ½ page advertisement, $50 for full-page advertisement. Businesses and community members may also donate props or other services. Please have them contact Miss Bowsher for more information. Costs for “Fan Ads” are as follows: $10 for one line of text, $15 for business card sized ad with optional picture, $25 for ½ page advertisement with optional picture(s), $50 for full-page advertisement with optional picture(s).

Bottom Line:

This show has the potential to be GREAT if all company works together in a positive manner and does their part to make sure that this show is successful. This is the first musical in the new cafetorium with state-of-the-art sound and light equipment. Let’s give it all we’ve got to be the best Elgin musical ever! 
