NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN to the general public and to all members of the CSU Channel Islands Student Government that:

A meeting of the Student Government Senate will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at California State University Channel Islands, Student Union Conference Room (room 1080), located at One University Drive, Camarillo, CA 93012, to consider and act upon the following matters:

i.Informational Item

  1. Bills and Resolution (Vice President Mumford25 minutes)
  2. Vice President Mumford presented on Bills and Resolutions, which will be provided as a supporting document
  3. Senator Perez yielded time to President Hinojosa
  4. President Hinojosa explained that it’s important to remember that this bill was vetoed and encouraged anyone who would like to edit it and make it more understandable but it will not be found online
  5. Senator Ewing yielded time to Advisor Alatorre
  6. Advisor Alatorre advised the senate to begin gathering some ideas and thoughts now to avoid last-minute resolutions
  7. Vice President Mumford asked if the senate would like to set up a deadline for their bills and resolutions
  8. Senator Perez yielded time to President Hinojosa
  9. President Hinojosa stated that they should all be finished and drafted 2-3 weeks before the end of the academic year
  10. Senator Fernandez relinquished Vice President Mumford’s chair back to her

ii.Discussion Item

  1. Active ShooterLayout (President Hinojosa 25 minutes)
  2. President Hinojosa presented on the Active Shooter Training event with CIPD and explained that there won’t be much set-up or clean-up for the event but would like members to attend since it is a Student Government event
  3. Vice President Mumford and Lt. Jetton are the point people for this event but it’s still up in the air as to whether Lt. Jetton or Officer Morris will be presenting
  4. Senator Christopher asked where the RSVP link can be found
  5. President Hinojosa explained that the link is on the flyers and can also be found on OrgSync
  6. Senator Perez asked if members have to RSVP
  7. President Hinojosa explained that space is limited so all members need to RSVP
  8. Vice President Mumford stated that if we reach our maximum capacity, members will be asked to stand in the back
  9. Senator Fernandez asked if this event is mandatory
  10. President Hinojosa explained that because it is a Student Government event, members should attend but she understands if members find the content sensitive/triggering
  11. Vice President Mumford stated that this event will be a lot more emotional than usual and if anyone notices attendees being triggered or in an emotional state, feel free to show support and provide them with the resources they may need
  12. President Hinojosa explained that we did add a warning label to our flyers and at the beginning of the presentation, it will be explained that there will be a real-life demonstration of this event at some point throughout the presentation
  13. Senator Federis motioned for a 5-minute recess
  14. Senator Ewing seconded the motion
  15. 5 in favor – 1 opposed – 0 abstentions for a recess
  16. Vice President Mumford called the meeting back to order at 9:52 AM
  17. Director of Events paid position (Senator Fernandez 30 minutes)
  18. Senator Fernandez proposed to make the Director of Events position a paid position because it is a lot of work and a time-consuming position and we have had trouble filling the position due to the lack of pay
  19. Vice President Mumford and President Hinojosa have been looking at the budget to see where the money would come from
  20. Senator Fernandez has also been speaking to the BASC committee to make this a paid position
  21. Senator Ewing asked if they would be solely responsible for creating A frames
  22. Vice President Mumford explained that the Director of Events is in charge of events and in the last few years, they’ve taken on A frames but it is not solely their job
  23. Senator Fernandez also explained that the Director of Events would take on the social media and marketing role
  24. Senator Perez explained that he is on the fence because if we incentivize people to apply for a paid position, there may be a lack of commitment or dedication to the organization
  25. Senator Fernandez answered that she had also been thinking about that but believes this would greatly increase the pool of applicants
  26. Senator Christopher yielded time to President Hinojosa
  27. President Hinojosa explained that as of now the Director of Events is required to work a minimum of 5 hours and proposed to make the Director of Events a 10-hour paid position, as well as bringing down the Director of Operations position to 10 hours
  28. President Hinojosa explained that in the last few years, Student Government has been programming more and having this position would help to coordinate these events and we would be able to fulfill student needs’ for additional events
  29. Vice President Mumford and President Hinojosa will be submitting the budget proposal for the next academic year on October 27th
  30. Vice President Mumford explained that the Director of Events assists senators, plans/coordinates events, works closely with Maximus
  31. Vice President Mumford stated that ultimately, the Vice President and President decide who the members of their cabinet are and if they’re not qualified, they will work to find someone who is
  32. Vice President Mumford opened up the floor for questions
  33. Senator Christopher yielded time to President Hinojosa
  34. President Hinojosa added that this is a decision the senate needs to make but just because we have this deadline, it does not make anything permanent and there is room to amend and edit this proposal
  35. Senator Ewing would like more time to think about it and would like for Senator Federis to be present for the discussion, as well
  36. Vice President Mumford explained that she, President Hinojosa, and Senator Fernandez can come up with a description and add it as a discussion item next week
  37. Senator Ewing asked for it to be presented early on so Senator Federis can be present
  38. President Hinojosa reminded everyone that we have 16 days to discuss and decide

  1. Senator Fernandez stated that it’s Coming Out Day and Spectrum Club will be tabling so stop by and say “hi!”
  2. Chief Lincoln stated that Genna and the interns have been making A frames and working on marketing for upcoming events
