Student Development Specialist III

Purpose

Purpose:

To advise and support Honors undergraduate students; coordinate Honors senior projects; answer inquiries about Honors academic requirements, oversee Honors course contracts; conduct degree audits; certify Honors graduation with Office of the Registrar; support Honors staff in programs/duties essential to the College.

Essential Functions

Function 1:

Job function: Student advising: advise primarily juniors and seniors on Honors College policies related to the Honors degree plan by appointment and walk-in; oversee Honors course credit contracts; prepare students for Honors Senior Project and graduation; oversee day-to-day operations of the advising office.

40 % Time

Function 2:

Job function: Programming: Assist Honors Director of Programming with biannual Honors Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity symposia and other special events; oversee summer Undergraduate Research Assistantship program; present Senior Project workshops.

25 % Time

Function 3:

Job function: Recruitment: Participate in recruitment activities on and off campus; attend preview days and college nights at local high schools; make presentations at university and Honors College orientations; meet with Honors-eligible high school and transfer students visiting UT Arlington.

15 % Time

Function 4:

Job function: Committees: Serve on Honors College Executive, Curriculum, Admissions, and Scholarships Committees; represent Honors College on university committees; act as liaison with academic units as assigned.

Function 5:

Job function: Miscellaneous: Maintain relevant databases and files; create reports; coordinate Honors College commencement ceremony activities; represent UT Arlington and Honors College at regional and national professional conferences; other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in field related work. Three years of experience in an advisory, administrative or educational capacity with college students or adolescents in community groups. Applicants must include in their online resume the following information: 1)Employment history: name of company, period employed (from month/year to month/year), job title, summary of job duties and 2) Education: school name, degree type, major, graduated or not, and hours completed if not graduated. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and graphic computer applications; excellent spoken and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills; experience with data analysis and assessment.
