STUDENT COUNCIL Applications 2017-2018

Description of Appointed Positions for the 2017-2018 Student Council:

·  Secretary: Prepare weekly agenda for meeting, record the minutes of the meeting as well as assist with administrative tasks

·  Treasurer: Responsible for handling money in regards to events, preparing financial reports for all activities.

·  Promotions: Responsible for marketing and promoting all student council events; engage the student body through social media by promoting events, designing student body polls

·  Communications: Write, get announcements authorized on the pink sheets and be the voice of SAC on the announcements; responsible for the SAC bulletin board on the first floor.

·  A/V Coordinator:

Carry out all A/V related tasks including setting up and winding up sound system for SAC events, and assisting with other A/V and IT related tasks.

·  School Liaison and T.D.S.B. Super Council Liaison: Coordinate and communicate with all school clubs and athletics; attend regional T.D.S.B. Super Council meetings and communicate events to SAC and the student body; submit pictures, videos and written text to the WCI website of all SAC events

·  Spirit Week Manager: To work with SAC members to plan and to execute spirit week events and Friday SAC events, and ensure the organization and smooth flow of all events.

·  Prom Chairperson: Head of the Prom committee.

·  Vaughan Road Student Representative: this position is reserved for an incoming Vaughan Road student who would have held a leadership role on SAC at Vaughan Road S.S.

All candidates must:

£  Be full-time students (6 subjects) during the school year and maintain this requirement throughout their time in office

£  Have a 65% overall average with no failures on the April report card of 2017, and maintain this minimum average for the duration of the 2016-2017 school year and the entire 2017-2018 school year

£  Have regular attendance in all classes

£  Have an overall good attitude

£  Not be involved in more than 2 major (Student Council, Best Buddies, yearbook, Weston Aces, e.t.c.) and/or 3 minor (Charity Club, Eco-Team, Art Club, e.t.c.) extracurricular activities at a time. This requirement is due to a lack of follow through of the student’s responsibilities as a council member

£  Complete a nomination sheet with twenty eligible voters endorsing his/her candidacy along with two teacher endorsements

£  Submit a one page, double space, one inch margin and 12 point arial font typed essay outlining why they would like to be a part of student council and what skills they bring forth to the committee with respect to the position they are applying for

There will be a mandatory meeting on Monday May 1st at 11:30 a.m. in Room 222 for all candidates. Interviews will be held during lunch in Room 222.
