Article I

Name

The name of the organization shall be:

Student American Black Chiropractic Association

[Enter Chapter/School Name] Chapter

Article II

Purpose

The purpose of the SABCA shall be:

  1. To recruit, encourage and support Black persons to study chiropractic.
  2. To encourage research in and the development of the science, philosophy and the art of chiropractic.
  3. To assist [Enter Chapter/School Name] in recruiting qualified Black students and faculty members.
  4. To teach and perform research in chiropractic.
  5. To generally advance in the science, philosophy and art of chiropractic, and to improve the standards in the profession by advancing the technical and professional knowledge.
  6. To donate time and services to neighborhood health clinics.
  7. To perform community education.

Article III

Agreements

  1. The SABCA chapter at [Enter Chapter/School Name]shall maintain active contact with the national American Black Chiropractic Association, Inc.
  2. The SABCA chapter at [Enter Chapter/School Name]will pay the annual fee of $50 to the national ABCA as well as submit to them an annual list of members and a yearly updated copy of their by-laws.
  3. The SABCA chapter at [Enter Chapter/School Name] will be an active member of the [Enter Region Name & Number].
  4. The membership of this organization shall determine the policies of the organization and shall elect all officers.
  5. The day-to-day operations of the organization shall be under the direction of the elected officers.
  6. The SABCA chapter at [Enter Chapter/School Name] is responsible for ensuring that their President attends the National Convention and the Regional Meeting.

Article IV

Membership

  1. Membership in the SABCA chapter of [Enter Chapter/School Name] shall be open to any person who is a full-time or part-time student enrolled at[Enter Chapter/School Name].
  2. An active member should be of good moral character and have paid the trimester/quarterly/semester (or annual) active membership dues. Only active Student Members shall hold elective offices, participate in the business proceeding and have voting privileges.
  3. Any active Student Member is eligible to become an elected representative for the [Enter Region Name & Number] and sit on the national Board of Directors with voting privileges.
  4. Subject to a 2/3 vote by the chapter, any person may be suspended or removed from the SABCA of [Enter Chapter/School Name] after the opportunity for a hearing and fair notice thereof, whose conduct is deemed harmful to the chapter. Notice shall be forwarded to the national ABCA.

Article V

Executive Board

  1. The Executive Board shall include the President, Vice President, Treasure, Secretary, and Parliamentarian.
  2. The Executive Board shall have full authority to act on behalf of the SABCA chapter of [Enter Chapter/School Name] between chapter meetings.
  3. All business transacted by the Executive Board on behalf of the chapter, shall be explained in detail at the next scheduled chapter meeting.
  4. The Executive Board shall report directly to the Regional Director.

Article VI

Dues

The trimester/quarter/semester dues for ALL SABCA of [Enter Chapter/School Name]STUDENTmembers shall be [Enter Dues Amount]. Dues shall be payable no later than the 4thweek of each trimester/quarter/semester. Any Student Member failing to pay their dues by the 4thweek of the Trimester/quarter/semester will NOT be permitted to vote on any business issues during that trimester/quarter/semester nor hold any elective or appointed positions.

Article VII

Elected Officers and Voluntary Positions

The elected officers of the SABCA of [Enter Chapter/School Name] shall be the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Parliamentarian.

In order for any member to become an elected officer, they must have been active both locally and nationally for the previous 2 trimesters/quarters/semesters with the exception of the secretary.

The voluntary positions of the SABCA of [Enter Chapter/School Name]shall be the Student CouncilRepresentative, SACA (Student American Chiropractic Association) Representative, Fundraiser Chairperson, Community Service Chairperson, and Hospitality and Publication Chairperson [Enter any other positions specific to your school]. The Faculty Advisor shall be determined according to each school’s policy.

  1. All elected officers shall be elected before the National Convention.
  2. All officers shall assume office and responsibility at the first meeting of the fall trimester upon return from the national ABCA convention unless the person previously holding the office has graduated.
  3. Each officer shall serve a maximum of 1year with the exception of Secretary, Treasurer and Parliamentarian who shall serve a maximum of 2 years as long as their term does not fall within 1 year of graduation.
  4. The officers as set forth in Article VII must be elected by secret ballot with all active members having one vote for each office. The candidate who receives the majority vote shall be elected.
  5. No person shall be elected to any office if absent from the election unless consent has been given to the President prior to the election.
  6. Duties and requirements of the elected officers and voluntary positions are:
  1. President: The President shall be the executive officer of the SABCA of [Enter Chapter/School Name] chapter and shall preside over all meeting. Members eligible to hold the office of President must have completed at least 1 year of the program and not be elected within 1 year of graduation. The President will give the chapter report at the annual Regional Meeting and the annual National Convention. The President shallbe the co-signeron the chapter’s bank account. The President must attend all events sponsored by the chapter[Enter any other events required by the school].The President shall appoint active members in good standing as chairpersons to special committees and act as a member of all standing and special committees.
  2. Vice-President: The Vice-President shall preside over chapter meetings in the absence of the President. Members eligible to hold the office of Vice-President must have completed at least 1 trimester/quarter/semester, but not be elected within 1 year of graduation. The Vice-President shall give the chapter report at the annual Regional Meeting and the annual National Convention if the President is unable to attend. The Vice President must attend all events sponsored by the chapter [Enter any other events required by the school].
  3. Secretary: The Secretary shall keep a record of membership attendance, minutes of meetings and notify members of upcoming meetings utilizing the email system. Members eligible to hold the office of Secretary must not be elected within 1 year of graduation. The Secretary shall provide active members with a copy of meeting minutes within 3 days of each meeting or upon request. The Secretary must attend all events sponsored by the chapter [Enter any other events required by the school].
  4. Treasurer: The current Chapter President may NOT be the acting Treasurer. The Treasurershall co-sign and issue all checks, preserve and have custody of all financial records and chapter Check Card. Members eligible to hold the office of Treasurer must have completed at least 1trimester/semester/quarter of the program but not be elected within 1 year of graduation. The Treasurer shall maintain a notebook with typed monthly financial reports that include a listing of all deposits into and withdrawals out of the chapter bank account and copies of all receipts. The Treasurer shall maintain a 2nd notebook with all monthly banking statements. Bank statements should be retained for a minimum of 3 years. The Treasurermust attend all events sponsored by the chapter [Enter any other events required by the school].
  5. Parliamentarian: TheParliamentarian shall give advice regarding procedure and shall use as a resource, Robert’s Rules of Order Revised, as an authority. Members holding this office should be familiar with chapter and national by-laws. The Parliamentary rulings of procedure shall be used as a guide for the chapter.Members eligible to hold the office of Parliamentarian must not be elected within 1 year of graduation. The Parliamentarian must attend all events sponsored by the chapter [Enter any other events required by the school].
  6. Faculty Advisor: The Faculty Advisor must be employed by [Enter Chapter/School Name] and be in support of the aims and goals of the organization. The Faculty Advisor is not required to hold a D.C. degree. They should attend chapter meetings and events unless there is a scheduling conflict. The Faculty Advisor is governed by school policy.
  7. Student Council Representative: This position may be appointed as needed by the President of the chapter according to school policy.The Student Council Representative must attend the Student Council meetings per school policy[Enter Student Council Meeting time and location if applicable]. The Student Council Representative will give a report at the 1st chapter meeting following a Student Council meeting. Student Council Representative term is 1 trimester/quarter/semester but there is no limit to the number of trimesters/quarters/semesters a person may volunteer for this position.
  8. Fundraiser Chairperson: The Fundraiser Chairperson must be appointed by the President and be in good standing. The Fundraiser Chairperson shall be responsible for chapter fundraising. The Fundraiser Chairperson must form and meet with committee members before presenting and idea to the chapter. Each fundraiser must have a specific purpose and there shall be at least one fundraiser for each of the following events: National Convention & Regional Convention. The chapter must vote to move forward with a fundraising idea. The Fundraiser Chairperson should maintain a notebook with all contact information of vendors, etc. used so that it will be available to the next chairperson.
  9. Community Service Chairperson: C.S. Chairperson must be appointed by the President and be in good standing. The C.S. Chairperson must form and meet with committee members before presenting an idea to the chapter. The chapter must vote to move forward with a community service idea.

Article VIII

Dissolution of the Chapter

  1. No part of the income or property of the chapter shall be distributed to its members or officers except that any individual may be compensated by the chapter for services rendered.
  2. Upon dissolution of the chapter all monies remaining shall be donated to the American Black Chiropractic Association (ABCA) in the name of the Student American Black Chiropractic Association, [Enter Chapter/School Name].
