Dear Governor Snyder,

With the assistance of the Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works!, Eastern Michigan University, FD Lake, IMSA and the STTF 17-591 Training Grant, J. Ranck Electric, Inc. underwent significant Excavation Safety, Rigging, and Traffic Control training over the past year, resulting in time and cost saving improvements throughout J. Ranck Electric, Inc. This training has supported the expansion of our operations as we have been able to secure more projects where our employees can utilize this training. Better trained employees are expected to result in improved efficiencies and safer operations, leading to job growth over the next 12 months.

J. Ranck Electric, Inc., located in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, provides electrical services work throughout the state, installing traffic signals, upgrading airports, streetscapes, electrical and communications utilities, installing solar generation, as well as numerous other types of projects.

J. Ranck Electric, Inc. met with the Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works! (GLBMW) Business Services Representative to develop a training plan for the coming year. The guidance of GLBMW, and specifically the assistance provided by Rod Reid, was invaluable in helping J. Ranck Electric, Inc. put together training goals and submit this for funding assistance. In addition, Eastern Michigan University, FD Lake, IMSA played a crucial role in determining J. Ranck Electric, Inc’s training needs and coordinating training sessions.

J. Ranck Electric, Inc. performed skills assessments on all employees and identified those that would benefit from additional Excavation Safety, Rigging, and Traffic Control training. J. Ranck Electric, Inc. contracted Eastern Michigan University, FD Lake, and IMSA to provide an instructor and training for 142 employees for Excavation Safety, Rigging, and Traffic Control training. The training was carried out at our Mt. Pleasant facilities, over several scheduled days, and resulted in an overall increase in employee skill levels. Some of the employees have gone on to higher skill level jobs in the J. Ranck Electric, Inc. facility and have helped provide a core of skilled employees as J. Ranck Electric, Inc. adds additional contracting capabilities.

With these members of J. Ranck Electric, Inc’s workforce trained and in key jobs, J. Ranck Electric, Inc. is certain to benefit from these new found skills resulting in gained productivity.
