Structure of Program – Peer Reviewers Training

Introduction

The School Improvement Unit (SIU) will host a two-day training event for principals wanting to know more about the school reviews and becoming trained as a principal peer reviewer.

As a peer reviewer, principals have the opportunity to join a review team and take part in a full school review, in which they will support and contribute towards another school’s improvement journey. This is a unique opportunity for principals to step outside of their school for a few days and see how another school operates and what learnings could be applied to their school community.

The importance of this training:-

To become a peer reviewer, it is a requirement that principals attend both days of training. It provides an insight into the range of reviews, the nine domains of the National School Improvement Tool(NSIT) and the processes used to undertake a review.

The training includes but is not limited to:-

•Overview of the SIU

•Review processes

•Interviewing and questioning techniques

•Data analysis to support the review

•Review documentation

•NSIT(unpacking the domains)

•Report writing

•Action plans

We will also discuss and apply the following in the review context:-

•Providing quality feedback

•Review findings and improvement strategies – how these are constructed

•Triangulating data

•Alignment of curriculum – horizontally and vertically

•Artefacts for each domain

Other important information: -

•Please bring a paper copy of the NSIT with you.
