STRP mid-term Workshops (WICC, Wageningen, 20-24 July 2004)

Working Group 1 (inventory and assessment)

Workshop Agenda (Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st July 2004)

Notes.

1. The co-lead of Working Group 1, Max Finlayson, advises that the workshop discussion on each of Working Group 1’s Tasks should be conducted as a separate discussion on that topic. Each element will then be considered in relation to the provision of a suite of additional guidance relation to ecological character issues through the development of an integrated framework for wetland inventory, assessment and monitoring (STRP Task 1.8 (i)).

2. Each topic should be introduced with a short presentation by the Working Group member indicated in the Agenda below. Computer projection facilities will be available throughout the Workshop.

3. The attention of participants is drawn to the general briefing notes concerning provision of working papers for the workshop, the purpose and objectives of the workshops, and the process of provision of technical guidelines and Resolutions to COP9, provided in the “Draft Overall Agenda and Briefing Notes” which have been posted on the STRP Support Service Web-site, mid-term workshops page (http://www.wetlands.org/_strp/).

4. Draft papers and/or notes which will form the basis of the workshop discussion should be posted by the Task lead prior to the workshop on the STRP Support Service Web-site, on its Working Group 1 Discussion and Library pages. All participants are strongly requested to download and bring with them to the workshop a copy of each relevant document – printed copies will not be available at the workshop venue.

5. As necessary, the Working Group may form one or more sub-groups to continue work on further developing specific draft guidances, reports and recommendations during the rest of the period of the workshops. A ‘break-out’ room will be available to such groups throughout the workshop week.

6. Would WG1 workshop participants please note that the discussion on Task 1.4 (iii): “Guidance on the evaluation of wetland ecosystem goods and services” will take place as an evening session (1930-2200) on Thursday 23 July.

7. The Workshop will operate in English language only.
