[ ] 6. Depression …Report / Update thereon …

Sub-committee Chairman - Peter Herd over-seeing this issue !

In Peters absence, Sylvia - having agreed to work closely with Peter - circulated information / documentation regarding The Mind Sanctuary, being launched by New Suffolk Wellbeing Services … and brought the groups attention to a recent article in the East Anglian Daily Times regarding depression awareness.

Much discussion followed, in that it has been clearly identified that this issue effects 10% of patients at some point in their lives … and more awareness of what help’s available … to be made thought various media within the surgery.

A ‘small’ leaflet, to be enclosed with all pharmacy dispensaries was suggested.

Keith had forwarded an extract of an Article obtained from ‘The Times’ 15/9/12 relating to mental health problems - this was not fully evaluated, given PH’s absence and therefore deferred to our next meeting.

[ ] 7. Practice Communications … Report / Update thereon …

Sub-committee Chairman - Ian Finch over-seeing this issue !

Ian reported that he had attended a seminar - 11 September 2012 - held by the Ipswich and East Suffolk CCG * Patient, Public and Practice Event – at Trinity Park, Ipswich – where he was able to speak with a leading n.h.s. I.T. contact regarding the ‘Info-screen / Q-card’ concept he had previously demonstrated at one of our meetings.

* = Clinical Commissioning Group

The ‘progression’ of the concept within Chesterfield Drive Surgery, is awaiting financial appraisal / approval from the Surgery’s Practice Manager / Partners.

Ian also circulated to all PPG members a very descriptive information sheet.

[ ] 8. Pharmacy matters … Any matters arising !

How about a PPG member taking this area ‘under-their-wing’ ?

Amanda had identified and reported what was perceived as a ‘system error’ on allocation / distribution of controlled / pharmacy dispensed drugs, whilst this was identified as NOT being a Surgery matter, such concerns where deemed serious and are to be investigated by DW & HB - in conjunction with the Head-of-Pharmacy.

Both HB & DW thanked Amanda for her observations and re-assured all members present that … It’s not a case of ‘getting-someone-into-trouble’ errors can and do occur, such observations - if heeded - will hopefully eradicate re-occurrence.

[ ] 9. Car parking …Report / Update thereon …

Sub-committee Chairman - Bob Preston over-seeing this issue !

Bob reported that - contrary to earlier promises from local Councillors - they had not returned to him with the information, upon which the Surgery could rely, to enable progression of the scheme(s) that had been previously discussed.

It transpires that the area in question - to the rear of the Surgery / Northern sector of the Community Centre - has already been allocated / leased to a local Play Group.

This has proved particularly frustrating, given the time & presentation(s) incurred by Bob ‘out-side’ that of the monthly meetings and a disappointment to the Group as a whole.

Amanda advised that Sherry Wilks [the local play groups Head] will soon be leaving her position - HB to build rapport with the ‘in-coming’ replacement.

Nothing had been progressed on the ‘usage’ of the adjacent flats car-parking area. CP identified that there are thirteen spaces - that just prior to the evenings meeting, all were empty ! This area now remains a possible ‘option’.

[ ] 10. Patient Survey … Report / Update thereon …

Hilary - on behalf of the Surgery providing ‘feed-back / in-put’

Hilary advised that in c. a months time, the Surgery would be installing a ‘Pod’ for Patients use - thus enabling ‘self-assessment’ readings of such factors as blood pressure – this would then be electronically logged into the Patients private data file, enabling the G.P. / Nurse to assess prior to consultation … maybe we’ll all get a demonstration at our next meeting ?

Hilary also advised the Group, that she would be leaving the Practice in March 2013. A replacement [a hard act to follow - cp] is being sought.

[ ] 11. A.O.B. (i) … Flu Clinic – Saturday 13th October

Four ‘volunteers’ from the Group agreed to assist on the day

I.F. & D.M. 09:oo > 12:oo hrs. … R.P. & C.P. 12:oo > 15:oo hrs.

(ii) … Allocation of notice board space – to ‘high-light’ PPG

HB agreed an allocated notice board space for PPG matters, Natasha has agreed to produce a ‘poster’ for displaying in the allocated area, prior to the Flu inoculation day.

(iii) … Leave of absence criteria to be ‘reviewed’

Given the evenings near full attendance - and mindful of the meetings time - this matter to be deferred to a later meeting.

(iv) … Recruitment

Given the evenings near full attendance - and mindful of the meetings time - this matter to be deferred to a later meeting.

Consideration to be given to a possible ‘virtual’ group

In ensuring we maintain a true ‘cross-section’ of the Surgery, Age, Disability, Ethnic & Gender candidates to be considered.

(v) … Prep. For AGM

We need to seek a Chair, Vice Chair & Minute Secretary ?

(vi) … Wills

Natasha mentioned that many people have not written Will, advising the Group of a Charity driven scheme, in that, through the Month of October, many firms of Solicitors are offering - subject to availability - a FREE albeit, ‘basic’ Will service … there’s no catch.

(vii) … Income generation

CP suggested that the Surgery could raise additional income by providing a specialist and dedicated service for HGV & PSV drivers medicals [these are required on first licence application & every five years beyond the age of forty] HB thought any additional revenue was worth pursuing.

DW did not consider this to be the remit of the PPG !

cp to speak with his known business contacts and revert to HB

[ ] 12. Chair’s summing up of evenings discussion, thanks and closure @ 19:50 hrs.

[ ] 13. Date, Next Meeting … Wednesday 31st October 2012 - meet 17:45 for 18:oo hrs.

advising - for diary - all meetings are scheduled for last Wednesday of the month,

unless advised to the contrary !

Pre-meeting apologies received from … AG
