Whether it’s explosive running and jumping, a quick burst out of the starting block, or contacting and moving an opponent, developing the right proportion of strength and speed is crucial to optimizing athletic power. With the revolutionary speed–strength–power continuum in Sports Power, you can determine the ideal mix of strength-based and speed-based power required for your sport.

Four to six week training programs designed for maximum results may be applied as presented or customized to individual needs using the seven-step program design process. Training exercises combine resistance training, plyometrics, speed drills, and cutting-edge power development techniques.

> Course Objectives

  • Develop an acceptable level of fitness and an understanding of the components of fitness and an appreciation of the life-long value of fitness through personalized physical education activities
  • Develop through a purposeful physical education experience a more positive self-concept appropriate to social and emotional behaviors, self direction and an appreciation of individual differences
  • Develop physical skills and acquire knowledge of efficient and creative movement through participation in a sequential program of varied activities and develop an appreciation for the value of this type of movement
  • Develop an awareness of safety practices and procedures

> Grading Policy

CLASS GRADING SCALEWEIGHTED TERM GRADING SYSTEM

A = 90% and aboveExit Outcomes = 60%

B = 80--89%Daily Objectives = 40%

C = 70-79%

D = 60-69%WEIGHTED COURSE GRADING SYSTEM

F = Below 60%50% = Term 1 grade

50% = Term 2 grade

Please note: In accordance with FCPS Reg. No 500-05, a student who fails the second term of a one semester course due to lack of acceptable effort may be failed for the course regardless of total quality points earned. Failure due to lack of effort will be preceded by ample notification to the student and parent/guardian and approval by the principal.

>Dress Policy

Students are required to change into physical education clothing which consists of a tee-shirt (No Graffiti), shorts (No short shorts or cut-off jean shorts), tennis shoes and in cold weather, sweat pants and sweat shirts. NO JEWELRY will be worn in class for safety reasons. Any student refusing to dress two times in one nine week term will receive a failing grade for that term. See above for swimming dress policy.

> Classroom Procedures

•Each student is expected to dress out in appropriate physical education attire and participate every day!

•ATHLETES PARTICIPATING IN A GAME EVENT AFTER SCHOOL MUST DRESS IN THEIR PHYSICAL EDUCATION ATTIRE AND PARTICIPATE IN CLASS. Failure to participate will result in a zero for the day.

• STRENGTH TRAINING STUDENTS ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THE BALCONY, IN THE LOCKER ROOM DURING CLASS OR IN THE BATHROOMS IN THE TUNNEL WITHOUT PRIOR PERMISSION FROM THEIR INSTRUCTOR.

•Inappropriate language and lateness to class will result in disciplinary action. Consistent violators will be referred to the administration.

•Respect our facilities by keeping locker rooms, gym, fitness room, and balcony clean and neat.

Respect individual difference by keeping all negative comments to yourself.

Students are on time if:

They are within the gym doors before the bell stops ringing

They are out of the locker room and in assigned area 6 minutes after being dismissed to dress.
