Stonham Family Intervention Project

Supporting families

The Stonham Family Intervention Project (FIP), in partnership with Norfolk Children’s Services offers intensive support to families where there is a high and complex level of need.

The FIP is for families who have at least one child under the age of 16 living permanently at home, living within North Norfolk, King’s Lynn and West Norfolk, Breckland and South Norfolk, who are at serious risk of losing their home through such issues as anti-social behaviour, poor school attendance, youth crime, worklessness, mental health and substance/alcohol misuse. These problems may in turn lead to significant disruption and fear of crime for people living locally in the community.

All agencies can refer a family for our support and self referrals from families are also accepted. This is done through Stonham’s existing HomeStay service and once received the referral is forwarded to the FIP Manager and team. The Stonham FIP operates across rural Norfolk and can support up to 72 families at any one time, depending on client need.

The service works with the whole family on a

voluntary basis with an individual support contract which is agreed and signed by all parties. The aim is to recognise the need for positive change in an open and honest multi-agency approach. We aim to work with families for 6 to 18 months on average although there is

no set time limit. We also offer a limited follow up service to check that all is well and can refer on to our generic support service for ongoing support as required.

We work positively with families through visits and phone calls to address the issues highlighted in the referral and assessments. We offer intensive support to families, including out of office hours, to avoid homelessness or enforcement action and to achieve a positive, sustainable, family life.

We do this by working to set targets and goals agreed by the family, forming the support agreement (contract). We use a solution focused approach, encouraging families to work with us and other agencies to enable person-centred outcomes.

Regular reviews take place with the family and involved agencies which are held at least six weekly.

We also have an on-call telephone support service for emergencies only. This runs from 5pm to 1am weekdays and 9am to 1am weekends and bank holidays.

Have you got a family you think may benefit from our service?

We will be happy to talk to you about possible referrals and discuss our criteria with you before you refer. We are also able to make an initial visit to the family, with the prospective referrer, to explain the service we can provide.
