Music Booster Association (MBA) Scholarship Application
2017-2018
SBHS MBA Scholarship applications are available to all Stone Bridge High School Seniors who have been active and contributing members of the Stone Bridge High School Choral or Instrumental Music Programs for at least two years and have been accepted as a music major or minor degree candidate in an accredited college or university with a music-based program.
The student applicant must provide all required components in one package to either their director (band, choral, orchestra or guitar) or the College and Career Center (Guidance Office) in an envelope labeled “SBHS MBA Scholarship Application”no later than the due date of 30 Apr 2018. The package shall be comprised of the following:
1)A completed SBHS MBA scholarship application
2)A typed one-page or less (less than 400 words) essay stating “What I Have Gained From my Involvement in Music.”
3)One letter of reference completed by someone with knowledge of the candidate’s musical abilities (must be from someone other than a SBHS music director or family member).
Late and/or incomplete packages will not be considered for scholarship award.
Each student will also be required to participate in an interview panel held by the scholarship committee, an appointed subcommittee of the MBA, as part of the decision process. Contact information is to be provided in order to set up these interviews, typically 15-20 minutes each during one late afternoon/evening within two weeks of the scholarship deadline. Questions will not be provided ahead of time. Awardees will be directly notified by a member of the committee prior to the SBHS Senior Award Ceremony.
The Scholarship Committee’s decision is final.
The signature at the bottom of the application acknowledges that the student applicant understands that scholarship award is contingent upon providing proof of having successfully taken the requisite courses for a music major or minor at his/her college or university via the submittal of an official transcript to SBHS MBA (c/o SBHS) or his/her former director at the conclusion of the student’s college freshman year. His/her social security number will be needed for the check to be provided. If the student is unable to provide a transcript by 31 May 2019, the MBA President must be notified prior to that time along with a valid excuse (ex - trimester university, mitigating circumstances), and alternate date; check requests cannot be made after the yearly closing of the MBA books on 30 June.
The scholarship committee shall use the following weighting system (totaling 100 points) to help determine the best candidate(s) for award of the scholarship:
1)Application: 25 points total
-Received on time, all portions completeMANDATORY
-Legible (preferably typed); At least two years SBHS participation w/appropriate grades;
-Displays musical growth/leadership; Music achievements/honors
-College courses planned applicable for musical pursuit
2)Essay: 25 points total
-Received on timeMANDATORY
-Typed and less than 1 page (less than 400 words); Grammar/spelling/punctuation;
-Essay structure/coherence; Details reasoning of what he/she gained from music
3)Letter of Reference: 25 points total
-Received on timeMANDATORY
-Letter is from appropriate person; Statement of student’s capabilities; - Recommendation for scholarship
4)Interview: 25 points total

Official grade reports must be received by May 31, 2019. The student’s Social Security Number will need to be provided for scholarship processing, due upon submission of college transcript.
