STF220-1_ZYG01 v 3.00 December trust services workshops
Announcement of two trust services workshops to be co-hosted by the DTI,
December 12th & 13th, 2002.
Workshop 1
International co-operation between trust service approval schemes
Overview:
This one-day workshop will be co-hosted with tScheme. In view of the need for effective co-operation between the various approval regimes, both within Europe and on a larger international scale, the workshop will review current and planned national and international approaches towards establishing schemes for the approval of Trust Services.
Common themes will be identified and explored and against these the potential for distinct approval regimes to work together will be considered. The workshop will address issues of policy and operational procedure which should be taken into account when establishing any form of mutual or cross recognition. Break-out groups will then discuss specific topic areas before the whole workshop reconvenes in a plenary session to hear from each group and to discuss the implications and how to move forward. As a specific contribution to this part of the discussion, tScheme will offer an example of what it considers to be the ‘core prerequisites’ of a multi-lateral Mutual Recognition Agreement. This will be offered to the workshop for discussion as a basis for establishing co-operation between approval regimes.
As a part of the discussion, there will be a focus on the implications of needing to share status information between approval schemes (regarding the services which have been approved by each scheme), which will lead in naturally to the following day’s agenda.

(EESSI project ETSI TC ESI STF220-1)

This one-day workshop, co-hosted with ETSI, is an integral part of the current EESSI programme task “A standard for the provision of harmonised trust status information”. A previous task established requirements on which this standard will be based
(ref. ETSI TR 102 030, available from: http://docbox.etsi.org/esi/open/TSLworkshop2002-12-13)
after it had conducted exhaustive interviews with those responsible for supervisory systems and voluntary approval schemes, principally across Europe but also in other parts of the world.
This workshop will allow those responsible for supervisory and voluntary systems to review the revised requirements of this task, comment on the draft standard (which will be available in outline form) and discuss which issues within the draft are key to its success. The task team will be keen to learn what features will make the standard readily acceptable for wide use.
