A good turnout at Curlys Trail Run at the start of the new Wesham championship

The opening Curlys 5k Trail race in the series of three from the restaurant above Horwich kicked off Wesham’s new trail running series and attracted 20 members. First to complete the hilly 5km route was Gary Barnett finishing 9th in 19:45 placing 1st M50. Second across the line was Steve Myerscough with 20:43, 3rd M40 closely chased by Trail Captain Steven Gore in 20:45. Daniel Shaw was one place behind with 21:05. Jason Blagden showed his strengths with 21:09 to place 20th and 3rd M45. Paul Hetherington came in 22nd with 21:12 as 5th M40. Nigel Shepherd ran well to place 32nd in 24:09, 1st M55. Martin Bates was 1st M60 and 33rd with 24:19. Helen Lawrenson was 7th woman and 35thoverall with 24:25 just losing out on the top W45 position by 2 seconds. George Kennedy ran 27:20 to come in 3rd M60 and 60th overall. Paul Eccles finished 61st with 28:18; Graham Brook 66th in 29:22; Dave Young finished 1st M70 in his debut in his new age category, 72ndoverall in 30:09. Kerry Eccles was 3rd W55, 22ndwoman and 81stoverall with 31:27 with Pauline Eccleston 3 seconds behind with 31:30. Anne Berry finished 33rd and 96thoverall in 33:05 with a great run; Caz Wadsworth 37th and 100th with 33:54; Peter Cooke 101st in 34:06; Debbie Myerscough back on course in 46th and 110th overall with 35:31; Nicola Ball was 40th and 115th in 36:36.

Rob Danson won the opening round of the 2017 Inter Club Grand Prix in Blackpool’s StanleyPark on Wednesday evening and took the top awards for winning the 2016 series at the presentation afterwards at the Cricket Club. The Wesham women won the ladies and the veterans’ teams led by Catherine Carrdus who also won the W40 category with Carmel Sullivan top W50 and Tracey Hulme 2nd. Alex Rowe was the leading M55 and Steve Myerscough won the M40 Fell category, Sarah Sherratt won W40. Full results and report next week.

In the Garstang Gallop 10k on Sunday David Taylor clocked 41:28 on the hilly course to finish 4th overall. Gary Barnett is in great form and he was 6th in 43:52 in a battle for the M50 title which he lost out on by only 21 seconds. Lee Barlow was 12th in 44:48 finishing 3rd M45. Helen Lawrenson was 5th woman, 1st W45 and 38th overall with 50:33, with Kath Hoyer 14th and 66thoverall in 55:42, 4th W55. Alan Taylor finished 81st with 58:09 while Dave Waywell came in 1st M70 and 100thoverall in 1:03:11. John Howorth finished 102nd in 1:03:42.

There were two Wesham women in the Manchester Marathon on Sunday. Jayne Hurst finished 1497th woman in 4:32:40 having gone through halfway in 2:32:22 giving her a great second half. Vicky Gore was 1865th in 5:12:27 having started off quicker and passing the half marathon distance in 2:20:42.

Steve Myerscough took in the hilly Darwen Half Marathon on Sunday and he was 40th and 11th M40 in a time of 1:32:24. Sharon Cooper was 42nd woman and 8th W40 in 2:04:03 coming in 204th overall. Nicola Unsworth ran the same time placing 10th W45. Debbie Myerscough finished 9th W50 in 2:08:25 to place 233rd overall.

Martin Bates ran the Pendle Fell Race on Saturday from Barley village and he finished 140th and 11th M60 in 54:44 for the 4.5 miles and 1499ft of climb.

Ben Wrigley was the fastest Wesham runner in Saturday’s Lytham Hall parkrun clocking 24:25 for an M35 age graded performance of 54.33%. Phil Leaver ran 24:54 for M60 66.13% with Graham Cunliffe 26:16 for M60 61.04%. Finlay McCalman ran 26:51 for an M50 56:30 and Debbie Bell 31:00 for W40 50.38%. In the Preston parkrun Steve Myerscough ran 19:46 for an M40 70.66% with Arran Galvin 20:13 for M35 65.62%. Robert Brown recorded 24:28 for M55 64.99%. At the hilly Hyde parkrun in Tameside Wesham parkrun tourist David Taylor rocketed round to the fastest time of the day with 18:01 for 71.79%., with Steven Gore 20:42 for M35 63.69%; Megan Gore 36:53 for JW10 46.27% and Vicky Gore warming up for her marathon effort the following day also 36:53. At the Cross Flatts run in Leeds Mark Renshall ran 20:59 for M40 66.56%. In Blackpool Rob Danson flew round in the fastest time of the day of 16:24 for 78.66% with Peter Cruse also a first timer here for 19:37 and an M50 77.66%. Carl Groome ran 20:25 for M45 71.10%; Helen Lawrenson 20:40 for W45 78.39%; Nicola Unsworth 21:36 with W45 74.23%; Chris Pike 24:38 with M40 56:22; Dave Young ran a new personal best with 25:14 for M65 69.09%; Peter Cooke 27:16 for M55 57.33% and Caz Wadsworth 29:30 with W50 58.25%.
