STETTLER DISTRICT 4-H COUNCIL

PRESENT: Rae-Ann Warner, Dwayne Grover, Shelly Grover, Marie Bignell, Jeanine Foot, Melody Swaren, Jimilee Chostner, Rita Foot, Nellie Rider, Mackenzie Sorensen, Morgan Sorensen, Lyle Bignell, Bev Stewart, Wendy Ashbacher

CALL TO ORDER: The annual meeting of the Stettler District 4-H Council was called to order by Dwayne Grover at 7:00 p.m. on October 19, 2009 at the Stettler Provincail Building.

PLEDGE: The 4-H Pledge was lead by Dwayne Grover.

SECRETARY’S MINUTES: MOTION: It was moved by Wendy Ashbacher, seconded by Mackenzie Sorensen that the minutes of the Mar 16,2009 meeting be adopted as circulated. All in favour. Carried.

TREASURER’S REPORT: MOTION:It was moved by Wendy Ashbacher, seconded by Lyle Bignell that the treasurer’s report be adopted as presented. All in favour. Carried.

Marie Bignell reported that around one thousand dollars will be coming from the Rairdan Memorial for public speaking finances.

OLD BUSINESS –

Regional Leader’s Night – everything went very well. Entertainment was a little too advanced for some of the children present. $500.00 will be coming from the East Central Region for the cost of the Leader’s Night.

District Public Speaking and Presentations where well organized.

District Fun Day – was not attended near as well as last year. We would like every club to ask their members what activities they would like to see for this day?

Beef Show –the beef show and sale will be May 24, 2010. Carcass Day will be May 1, 2010.

Summer Programs – Some members attended Horse Classic, the Beef Heifer show, Club Week and the Key Member attended Key Member Training.

Committee’s – Beef - Three beef clubs are in the district and seem to have increased membership. Sunday November 8 is beef weigh-in day.

-  Horse – Three horse clubs are in the district. Big Valley Rusty Spurs had a trail ride for their Achievement Day. All three clubs are up and running.

-  Sheep – The Sheep club just had their Achievement Day and are not really organized as of yet.

-  Multi – it has eleven members and are doing the “Exploring 4-H” modules.

-  There is a possibility of a new sheep club in the Donalda area.

Key Member – Jeanine Foot attended the Key Member training at Battle Lake and is willing to help with judging and help with meetings and what ever she can help with. Jeanine’s address is Box 8 Red Willow, AB T0B 3V0 and her phone number is (403) 742-1035.

Key leader – Jimilee Chostner is the new key leader for the district and will be going to training on October 23-25, 2009. Jimilee’s address is Box 152 Botha AB and her phone number is h.(403) 742-1054 or w. (403) 742-3800.

4-H Office – If you are interested in more information on Leader Screening, Ski Trip, Red Deer Rebels Night, FCC 4-H 4 Ever, Winter Camp, Senior Members’ Conference, Public Speaking Dates or Multi Species Judging please look it up on www.4h.ab.ca or contact one of the district executive.

Scholarship Committee – Chad Sorensen received a $500.00 scholarship this year .Applications for this year’s scholarship need to be in by October 31, 2009.

Regional Council – The next Regional Council Meeting is Friday November 20, 2009 at the Coronation Community Centre at 6:00 p.m. Pizza will be served at 5:30 p.m.

Provincial Council – is meeting at the end of next month. Council representatives want you to contact them concerning any concerns that you may have so they can address them.

We went over the questionnaire that was sent out regarding implementing a Cloverbud Program. The general consensus of the meeting was a NO to having a Cloverbud program.

Foundation – nothing to report.

NEW BUSINESS –

National 4-H Month – On November 4 everyone is asked to wear green.

The District is supplying coffee for the Auction Mart on November 3 and Big Knife Beef 4-H is setting up a 4-H display at the auction mart.

Any other club can set up a display anywhere but please take pictures and give to a district council member.

MOTION: It was moved by Marie Bignell, seconded by Shelly Grover that donate $250.00 for coffee that day at the Stettler Auction Mart. All in favour. Carried.

Provincial Leaders’ Conference – It was reported that plans are going well and most of the sessions are booked. Stettler District is suppling the decorations for the conference.

MOTION: It was moved by Marie Bignell, seconded by Melody Swaren that the Stettler District purchase a $50.00 silent auction item for the Provincial Leaders’ Conference. All in favour. Carried.

Wendy Ashbacher will get this item.

District Ski Day – Big Valley Rusty Spurs is to book the Alliance Ski Hill for Janurary 31, 2010 for District Ski Day. The Rusty Spurs will also look after the hot chocolate and hot dogs for the day.

District Public Speaking & District Presentation Dates –

MOTION: It was moved by Jimilee Chostner, seconded by Bev Stewart that District Presentations will be Wednesday March 10, 2010 and District Public Speaking will be Sunday March 14, 2010. All in favor. Carried.

Westwood Wranglers will get the facility for Public Speaking and Wild’n’Wooly will get the facility for Presentations.

Grant Application/Budget –MOTION: It was moved by Marie Bignell, seconded by Mackenzie Sorensen that the district apply for the 4-H District/Regional Council Sponsorship. All in favour. Carried

MOTION: It was moved by Jimilee Chostner, seconded by Rae-ann Warner that the district council approve the amended proposed budget. All in favour. Carried.

MOTION: It was moved by Bev Stewart, seconded by Marie Bignell that the district dues be $10.00/member. All in favour. Carried.

Elections – Dwayne Grover is still president for one more year and Wendy Ashbacher is secretary-treasurer for another two years..

The Scholarship committee needs two more members. Wendy Ashbacher volunteered to go back on the committee and it will be checked into to see if Shirley Woods will let her name stand on the committee.
