Steps for writing a Jane Schaffer Response to Literature Paper:
Create a T-chart for the first half of the story
Fill out 4-6 CDs on the left side of the T-chart
Fill out 6-8 CMs on the right side of the T-chart
Choose your biggest CM word and create a Topic Sentence out of it. Remember it should have no CD in the TS!!!
Choose 2 CDs that match your TS. Label them CD1 and CD2 .
Choose 2 CMs that match your CD1 and 2 CMs to match your CD2 .
Create a web off the word for your CM1 word.
Place the CM word in the oval.
Place a synonym for the CM word in the rectangle.
Answer the question “why was the character CM?” in the clouds. Remember that your clouds should be DEEP thought. They should be more of a psychological analysis and should be more about humans in general, not necessarily about the character. Please DO NOT summarize the plot. There should be no CD here!
Pick two or three things from the web off the word and combine them to create your first CM sentence.
For your second CM sentence, repeat steps 8-11 for your CM2 word.
For your third CM sentence, repeat steps 8-11 for your CM3 word.
For your fourth CM sentence, repeat steps 8-11 for your CM4 word.
Create a doughnut sheet for your CS sentence.
Place your TS word in the center of the doughnut.
Ask yourself “what does it mean for the character to be TS word?”
Pick two or three things from the outside of the doughnut and combine them to create your CS sentence. Do not repeat the CM word from your TS in your CS.
 Put all your sentences together in the following order: TS, CD1, CM1, CM2, CD2 , CM3 , CM4 , CS
For your second body paragraph, repeat steps 1-19 about the character and how they change in the second half!!!
