Steps for Reading a Patriot Advisement Report (PAR)
The PAR is broken down into three sections, 1) Core Curriculum, 2) Courses Not Allocated and 3) Degree Specific Requirements.
University Core Curriculum
1) The 44-hour Core Curriculum is the first section listed and is assigned to every student. Overall Core Curriculum hours and which catalog the student is working from can be viewed at the top of this section. In the example listed below the student is under the 2006-2008 catalog and has completed 44 of the required 47 units.
2) The Core Curriculum is broken down into 8-9 subsections depending on what catalog year a student is under:
- English Composition/Rhetoric
- Humanities
- Social/Behavioral Sciences
- Fine and Performing Arts
- US History
- American Government and Texas Politics
- Laboratory Science
- Mathematics
- Institutional Option (only shown for students who are pursuing degrees under the 2002, 2004, or 2006 catalogs)
3) The Core Curriculum is not major specific. Any courses that are degree specific that will also match within the Core Curriculum will be listed under Degree Specific Requirements in section 3.
4) Each subsection lists a course grid showing the courses that can be taken to satisfy the requirement.
5) Once the student has successfully completed all requirements for the subsection it will show as Satisfied and the course grid will collapse.
6) To view the grades for the completed courses click on the green arrows. In the example listed below the student completed ENGL 1301 in Fall 2007 with a grade of A. If the student had taken this course at another institution and transferred it to UT Tyler the grade would be listed as TA for Transfer A, and the semester listed would represent the semester in which the grade was posted at UT Tyler, not the semester in which the student took the course at the other institution.
7) Once the Core Curriculum has been completed the entire section will collapse.
Courses Not Allocated
1) This section will show courses that do not match anywhere in the Core Curriculum or Degree Specific Requirements. In the example listed below the student transferred a 1000 level Kinesiology course which has no direct equivalent at UT Tyler so it was listed as KINETRAN1000. The student also transferred at least one 1000 level and one 2000 level course which UT Tyler does not have an equivalent heading for so they were listed as TRAN1000 and TRAN2000.
2) Within this section myUTTyler will not list multiple courses with the same title. For example, if a student transferred in four 1000 level electives for which UT Tyler has no equivalent heading the Courses Not Allocated would only show one TRAN100 course, not four. To view all transfer work a student has completed run a Transfer Credit Summary.
Degree Specific Requirements
1) This section title will be determined by the major the student is pursuing.
2) The total number of hours required to complete this section and the catalog the student is working under are listed at the top of this section. In the example listed below the student is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, is under the 2006 catalog requirements, and has completed 33 of the 92 required hours.
3) This section is broken down into numerous subsections as determined by the department.
4) If there are any degree specific requirements that also match in the Core Curriculum they will be listed in a separate category at the beginning of this section and the text in that subsection will always include the statement “Some courses may be used to satisfy Core Curriculum requirements”.
5) Any subsections are titled at the discretion of the department.
