Stepping Stones Nigeria – Advocacy and Campaigns Intern

Stepping Stones Nigeria is a UK- based international NGO dedicated to supporting the rights of vulnerable and disadvantaged children such as the so-called child ‘witches’ and ‘wizards’ of the Niger Delta. SSN is looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual to assist primarily with advocacy and campaigning tasks in our Lancaster office.

Working alongside the Advocacy Officers and Programme Director you will be involved with the Prevent Abuse of Children Today (PACT) Campaign which aims to eradicate child witchcraft-related abuse and child trafficking in the Niger Delta. The internship is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with an interest in advocacy and campaigning work within the human rights/development sector and wanting to obtain valuable experience of working for a small, dynamic NGO.

Candidates should be able to commit 1-2 days per week, for an initial period of six months. This is an unpaid position but we will reimburse lunch and travel expenses.

Intern job description:

·  Assisting the advocacy and campaigns officers with the PACT campaign by: maintaining up-to-date records of supporters; updating the website; sending out materials to coalition members and assisting with publicising the campaign, particularly using social media.

·  Researching churches and Christian organisations in the UK, Nigeria and around the world.

·  Keeping up-to-date with blogs and forums which feature topics relevant to the work of Stepping Stones Nigeria.

·  Carrying out web-based research as required.

·  Supporting the running of the office in general by carrying out various administrative tasks as required.

Person Specification
Essential:

·  Skilled in internet research including familiarity with using blogs, forums and social media such as facebook and twitter.

·  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·  Organised and self-motivated.

·  Good inter-personal and research skills.

·  Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.

·  Able to work independently and take initiative.

·  Commitment to SSN’s values and mission.

·  Enthusiasm for learning new skills.

Desirable:

·  Some experience of advocacy and campaigning.

·  Experience of using Joomla.
