STEP 4: CREATE AND IMPLEMENT YOUR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN

1- Develop initial Professional Development Plan

Before attending PDP Meeting at the end of Semester 1

Intern identifies problems of practice using the Professional Development Plan Worksheet

Steps 1 and 2.

During Semester 1 PDP Meeting

Intern, Mentor Teacher and Supervisor discuss intern’s responses to Steps 1 and 2 of the

Professional Development Plan Worksheet and help intern fill out Step 3.

Supervisor will share the observation process that emphasizes focused observations and

data collection to support the intern’s specific problems of practice.

2- Implement Professional Development Plan

Intern implements plan developed in PDP meeting from semester 1 that addresses intern’s problem of practice (including data collection) to inform daily direction/ instruction.

3- Plan observations with mentor and supervisor

During Mentor and Supervisor Observations

Intern sets up scheduled Mentor and Supervisor according to dates in Handbook.

Mentor and Supervisor will collect data during their scheduled observations and share it with intern during the post observation conference. This data informs dialogue designed to help the intern plan next steps surrounding the current problem of practice.

The cycle will continue through the rest of your observations for the semester. At the end of the second semester of your full-time internship experience, you will share the results of your professional development plan in at least one of the following ways:

1) share at a team meeting

2) make a powerpoint to share with your peers

3) upload a presentation and post a response to someone else’s study

3) share at seminar

4) record a presentation of your study and share it with your university supervisor

5) present at the Inquiry Showcase in Gainesville

*More specific details for presentations will be posted on the course site.
