21st Century Learning and Project Based Websites

Finding appropriate and relevant websites for use within the classroom has become increasingly difficult with the vast amount of information available. The Network has reached out to our team of coaches, consultants and content editors across the country to ask them about their favorite websites to use in the classroom and to prepare lessons. We’ve compiled the answers received below in no particular order. It is not a comprehensive list of all that is available, as the internet and websites are always changing and being updated, but those that are listed are some of our favorites, offering project-based learning activities and 21stcentury tools for educators and students.

The site for the Foundation for a Better Life.This is an inspirational site that highlights people facing great adversity and overcoming their limitations to find success.


An alternative to the traditional presentation of information in a slide format. The site allows for enhanced ability to explain ideas and concepts while expressing creativity and self expression.

Classroom 2.0 is a free, community-supported network. Designed for those who are beginners to social media as a way to use web-based tools with students, offering practical how-to information.

A site that models the type of thinking and problem-solving that our students must possess in the 21st Century.

VUVOX is an easy to use production and instant sharing service that allows you to mix, create and blend your personal media – video, photos and music, into rich personal expressions.

ZooBurst is a digital storytelling tool that is designed to let anyone easily create their own customized 3D pop-up books.

Teachers love how this site visually brings together in one cube literature, media, audio and more for most topics.

Aviary is a free online suite of tools designed for editing of images, music, audio, color palettes and effects.

A free network that offers a safe and easy way for teachers to post classroom materials, share helpful links and videos, and access homework, grades and school-wide notices for all students.

Delicious is a Social Bookmarking service, which means you can save all your bookmarks online, share them with other people, and see what other people are bookmarking.

KnowledgeWorks Foundation is a great site with tons of videos about upcoming trends that will impact education.

Ode is a print and online publication of positive news about the people and ideas that are changing our world for the better.

National Council of Teacher's of English Read, Write, Think site, including lesson plans, student interactive components and a comic creator.The lesson plans push a higher level of rigor.


Buck Institute for Education Project-Based Learning for the 21st Century includes materials, processes and professional development for all levels and subjects.They particularly serve as a great resource when developing standards and projects for Marketing Education.

CSPAN offers a great and ever-evolving website that has an immense archive of video clip materials and lessons that are specifically targeted to civics, government and social studies teachers.

Provides a glossary of instructional strategies as a resource for all educators. Current number of strategies and methods: 988.

The Silk Road Project provides a gateway to greater understanding of the world through active educational programs andresourcesand multidisciplinary explorations of topics inspired by the Silk Road.

Internet Public Library is a public service organization and a learning/teaching environment. To date, thousands of students and volunteer library and information science professionals have been involved in answering reference questions for our Ask an ipl2 Librarian service.
