  • Human Rights Award – This award honors the actions of an individual or group who protect and promote the awareness of cultural diversity and advocacy of human rights.
  • Daniel M. Stone Humanitarian Award – In memory of Daniel M. Stone, former Director of the Department of Human Services. This award honors the action of a citizen in his or her efforts in the area of humanitarianism.
  • Meyera E. Oberndorf Human Rights for Achievement in Government Award - In memory of former Mayor Meyera E. Oberndorf. This award honors the action of an elected, appointed official or government official (individual or group) who protects and promotes the awareness of cultural diversity and advocacy of human rights.
  • Helen P. Shropshire Human Rights Youth Award - In memory of Helen P. Shropshire, a founding member of the HRC and a lifetime advocate and educator. This award honors the actions of a middle or high school student (public, private or home school) who protects and promotes the cultural diversity and advocacy of human rights.

  • All information submitted may be used in the City’s promotional materials.
  • The Commission reserves the right to submit nominations for the Human Rights Award, the Daniel Stone Humanitarian Award, the Meyera E. Oberndorf Achievement in Government Award and the Helen P. Shropshire Youth Award. The Commission also reserves the right to select any award nominee as a recipient of any of these four awards, even if the recipient was nominated for a different award.
