COLLEGE APPLICATION CHECKLIST

STEP 1: Request Recommendations (if needed/desired)

 Complete Student Bio Sheet in Naviance

  • Go to and log in to your account (email Ms. Woods at if you need your username and/or password)
  • Click on the About Me tab
  • Click on Student Bio Sheet on left-hand side of page
  • Complete the questions and click on Update at bottom of page to save
  • Take your time and complete questions thoroughly to help your recommenders write the best possible letters for you.

 Choose 2-3 individuals to recommend you

  • Pick a teacher or two who you’ve had recently and who know you well
  • You may also pick someone from outside the school (employer, coach, advisor of a community organization)
  • Be sure to ask these individuals in person if they will write a recommendation for you
  • Give individuals at least two weeks’ notice to prepare your letter as a courtesy
  • Be sure to let LD teachers know that you’ve completed your Bio Sheet in Naviance (they will be able to access it)
  • You can print out a copy of your Bio Sheet for any outside individuals
  • LD teachers will upload their letters directly into Naviance; you can have outside individuals email their letters to Mrs. Love at for her to upload into Naviance
  • Three recommendations are plenty!
  • You can also ask your counselor to write you a recommendation if you like. 

STEP 2: Complete Applications

 Apply online at each college’s website (applications are usually found under Admissions)

 Use the Common Application ( if appropriate

 Use SENDedu ( if appropriate

STEP 3: Complete Naviance Information

 Go to Naviance at and enter your username and password (email Ms. Woods at if you need one or both)

 Complete Privacy Notice

  • Click on Colleges tab
  • Click on Colleges I’m Applying To
  • You must complete the privacy notice in the blue box in order to authorize our office to send any necessary official documents electronically. If you don’t complete this notice, then we can’t send any of your documents!
  • Click Yes or No to indicate whether you do or do not waive your right to see teacher/counselor references once your enroll in college (most students click Yes and waive their right)
  • Check the box authorizing us to release your records to the colleges of your choice
  • If you are using the Common Application, enter your Common App username and password where indicated. If you are not using Common App, leave these fields blank.
  • Click the Submit button
  • The blue box should now be smaller and appear in the middle of your screen

 List College Applications and Request Transcripts:

  • Click on the Colleges tab
  • Click on Colleges I’m Applying To
  • Click Add to This List
  • Enter type of admission for which you are applying (Regular Decision, Early Decision, Early Action, etc)
  • Click on Lookup and type in the name of the college
  • Click on the name of the college in the list
  • Click the box beside I Have Submitted My Application
  • Click the box beside Request Transcript
  • Do not click any of the other boxes
  • Complete the steps above for all colleges to which you are applying
  • When finished, click Add Colleges at bottom of screen
  • Your list of colleges should appear on the page showing that you’ve applied and requested transcripts

 If you have already listed colleges previously but haven’t completed other steps…

  • Click on Colleges tab
  • Click on Colleges I’m Applying To
  • You will see colleges that you’ve listed—click on Have You Applied?
  • Click I Have Submitted My Application and indicate what type of admission for which you are applying for each college
  • Click on Update Applications
  • To request transcripts, click on Request Transcripts at top of page
  • Click Add Request under the name of each college; you can also add additional colleges on this page

 List Teacher Recommendations

  • Click on Add/Cancel Requests under Teacher Recommendations on the Colleges I’m Applying To page
  • Select the teachers whom you have asked for recommendations (NOTE: You can’t add names of outside recommenders in Naviance)
  • Click on Update Requests
  • You will now see the teachers’ names listed
  • Teachers will upload their letters directly into Naviance, and Mrs. Love will send them electronically along with your transcripts.
  • If you are using the Common Application, please direct teachers to complete the Teacher Evaluation Form in Naviance as well as upload their letter of recommendation. I will also complete the Secondary School Report for the Common Application through Naviance. All forms and letters will be send electronically to the schools that you have indicated in your list of colleges to which you’ve applied using Common App.

STEP 4: Send Test Scores

 SAT and/or ACT scores must be sent officially to colleges directly from the testing company (College Board for SAT, ACT for ACT)

 LD does NOT send test scores!!

 To request official test scores, go to (for SAT) and/or (for ACT) and log in to your account. You can choose to send scores to the colleges where you’ve applied. Both companies will charge you a fee to send scores to each college if you didn’t arrange to have scores sent when you registered for the test initially.

STEP 5: Register with the NCAA Clearinghouse (Athletes Only)

 Go to the NCAA Eligibility Center at

 Log into your account or create an account

 Fill in all required information to apply to the Clearinghouse

 Go to My Planner

 Check Task List

 Check box beside Official Transcript Needed then click on text “Click Here” to submit a request to college

 Parchment landing page—be sure to create an account here!! You must create an account in this step so that Naviance can recognize that you need a transcript sent to the NCAA

 Fill in personal information – only first name, last name, gender, and date of birth are required. Everything else is optional.

 School Info – check box beside “I authorize NCAA Eligibility Center to request transcript on my behalf.” This will make it easier for the NCAA to request final transcripts at the end of the year.
