STC Meeting Minutes—September 27, 2006
Transition Point #2
· Questions and clarifications?
· Email reporting on transition point #2 to Kathy Hildebrand
Dispositions (part of transition point #2)
· Measure dispositions across programs vs. a different measure for each program?
OR
· Individualize to programs?
Elementary
· Link dispositions to 308
· Who does the evaluations? (practicum teacher vs. university instructor)
Evaluating Dispositions
· There needs to be reporting before students are accepted to student teaching with time for remediation.
· Concerns expressed about having 308 teachers evaluate dispositions.
· Maybe have evaluations done by practicum instructor, another professor, and the cooperating teacher (practicum teacher and professor)
· If dispositions are going to be evaluated by a professor, there needs to be language in the syllabus.
· Ultimately this needs to be decided by each area.
· Suggestion: Each professor will flag students who need remediation—this will create a paper trail.
· Standardized paragraph to cut and paste into every syllabus.
Transition Point #3
· How do we know that students have completed student teaching effectively?
· Suggestion: Why not use the university supervisor/cooperating teacher final evaluation form?
· Discussion: We need something in addition to the form to evaluate planning, pre-assessment, etc.
· Student teaching portfolio on Task Stream?
· Rubric to make evaluations more specific, less subjective.
List of criteria that need to be evidenced:
· judges prior learning
· plans instruction
· teaches
· assesses
· analyzes
· reflects
· How will the student teachers use technology to impact student learning (what evidence)?
· Teacher work samples (Each area will decide what that will look like).
· Cooperating teacher and supervisor evaluation?
· Who needs to be able to use Task Stream?
· Currently Troy Hutchings determines final grade of pass or fail. Should the decision also be backed by a faculty member in the content area?
