Staying at the NFB Jernigan Institute

General

·  The doors to the building lock after 5:00 p.m. during the week and remain locked at all times during the weekend. If you have a need to be out of the building after the doors are locked, please talk with the person in charge of your event to get a key card. You will be asked to provide "collateral" for the key card which usually takes the form of an ID, house keys, or something else that you are very unlikely to want to leave without.

·  There is no smoking in our building. However, there is a smoking deck off the second floor for people who wish to use it. You will need a key card to access the smoking area after 5:00 p.m. during the week and at all times during the weekend.

·  Natalie Shaheen is designated as the “overnight in charge.” She is available to answer any questions you may have and to help you with anything you may need while you are staying in the building. She will be staying in room W3 and can be reached at 410-929-4632.

·  Guide dogs are welcome in our building. There is a relief area outside of our Wells Street entrance (to the left as you exit either door). The code for the gate is 513. Note that you will need a key card to re-enter the building during the times that the doors are locked.

·  Alcohol is not permitted in the building unless approval from President Riccobono has been obtained.

·  The wireless network in the building is called NFB-Guest. The password is “add2decade.”

Rooming

·  Rooms at the NFBJI are hotel-style, and are furnished with towels and linens. You will need your own toiletries.

·  There is a good chance that you will be sharing your room with other participants; please come prepared.

·  Please let us know if you require a wheelchair-accessible room.

·  Please let us know if you have a service animal so we can be sure to accommodate you.

·  Each room has a coded door lock. Please be sure to lock your room when you are away.

·  In the sleeping room wing—unless there is a fire, please do not go through doors that have horizontal push bars. These doors are connected with the fire alarm system and will initiate a fire alarm when opened.

Food

·  All meals will be provided unless otherwise noted on the program agenda.

·  The lunchroom, which is located on the fourth floor, is stocked with some snack items (peanut butter, jelly, bread, crackers, milk, etc.). Feel free to help yourself to these items between meals.

·  The lunchroom also contains a coffee machine; you are welcome to take advantage of this convenience.

·  There is also a Keurig machine available for those who can't live without their favorite K-cups (K-cups not included, bring your own).

·  There are soda machines in the lunchroom as well.

·  There is a refrigerator in the Harbor Room which you are welcome to use if you have items that need to stay cold.
