Registration of Importers of New Lead Acid Batteries

Rule 5 of theBatteries (Management and Handling) Rules notified by theMinistry of Environment and Forestsin May 2001 stipulates that all the importers of new lead batteries shall get themselves registered with theMinistry of Environment and Forestsby submitting details in a form prescribed in theRules. Rule 6 stipulates that custom clearance of imported lead acid batteries shall be contingent upon, inter-alia,theone time registration with the Ministry of Environment and Forests. Accordingly, applications are being received from importers of new lead acid batteries in Form II. Based on theexamination of theapplications, one time registration is being granted to such importers.
