SUBJECT: SITUATION REPORT SEVERE WEATHER

OVERVIEW – Severe weather moved into Wisconsin this evening producing severe thunderstorms, tornado watches and warning, hail and minor street flooding. As of 11:00 p.m., there were no reports of damage or request for assistance by county emergency management offices.

Earlier tonight, tornado warnings were issued for Eau Claire, Pepin and Dunn Counties. There were no reports of tornado touchdowns. The National Weather Service reported that a funnel cloud was spotted near Rock Falls in Dunn County. Tornado watches were also posted for Buffalo, Eau Claire, Pierce, Vernon, Chippewa, La Crosse, St. Croix, Dunn, Pepin and Trempealeau Counties.

Severe thunderstorms swept across much of the northwest and central portions of Wisconsin causing some minor flooding and hail. Pea to quarter sized hail was reported in numerous locations across the state. Golf ball size hail was reported in Jackson County. No reports of damage.

Heavy rains fell in Door County tonight causing some street flooding. Door County Emergency Management reported that there were some road closures and the old bridge was closed and traffic was being rerouted in Sturgeon Bay due to flooding. Additional rains were expected to continue in the area.

Several other areas in the state were under flash flood watches but those were cancelled.

State of Wisconsin – The State of Wisconsin Emergency Operations Center was partially activated this evening in response to the severe weather. There has been no request for state assistance.
