StarFest 2012 General Information

  1. If you should have any questions or need assistance of any kind please call Dan Holrichter at 712-253-2665. You can also find a volunteer wearing a StarFest t-shirt and they will be glad to help you as well. Mr. Massey’s (NHS Band Director ) (712) 444-7751.
  2. Your busses will be directed where to park upon arrival at Elwood Olsen Stadium.
  3. Elwood Olsen Stadium uses college hash marks only. The college will not let us put anything on the field to label high school hashes,
  4. A thirty minute practice time has been allotted to participating bands. These warm-up areas DO NOT have lines. We ask that if you are at Bass Field to turn away from the stadium to limit any interference with performing bands. If you want more than 30 minutes please find an area on campus and make sure you are pointing away from the performance field as we do not want any bleed through of practice sound.
  5. Pay close attention to the preliminary round schedule as it lists your band’s warm-up time and place, gate time, and performance time. An evening schedule is included for the bands performing in the evening finals. This also contains the above information.
  1. Gates will open at 12:00 and admission is $8 for adults, $6 for senior citizens and $4for students. Children 4 and under will be permitted entrance at no cost. Each band will receive 1 chaperone wrist band per every 10 students. If you need more then that please let us know and we would be happy to give more.
  2. Band students will be permitted re-entry into the stadium with their wrist band.
  3. StarFest will have 6 accredited judges for the prelims and 6 different judges for the finals.
  4. Trophies will be awarded in preliminary rounds to the top three bands in each class. Evening finals will include trophies for all finalist bands as well as caption awards for Outstanding Horn Line, Outstanding Drum Line, Outstanding Pit, Outstanding Color Guard, Outstanding Drum Majors, and two Outstanding Music Execution Awards (one for schools over 800 students and one for schools under). There will also be Spirit Award, handed out in the finals. (We will have judges for this award sitting in the stands and on the grounds throughout the day. They will pick a winner based on sportsmanship, pride, character, and spirit. They will observe students, directors, fans, etc. Please remember there may be many qualified recipients, but we will only choose 1).
  5. StarFest only has two rules. The first is to stay within your 15 minutes allotted time performance and second NO fire of any kind may be used on the field. Trooping is allowed and encouraged as long as your band is finished by the time the next band is ready to perform on the field. We want this experience to be a positive one for you, your band, and your fans.
  6. Drum off - We are going to have a drum off during the break (Before the Prelim Awards) for any drum line that wants to participate. We will line up Drum Lines on the track and each drum line will have 2 – 4 minutes of performance time. You may perform whatever you would like with or without visuals. It hopefully will be something fun for the kids. We will have a special percussion judge on hand to select a winner.
  7. We will have all bands participate in the finals this year. That will give everyone two performances with different judging panels. As you can see on the schedule we have 11 bands plus NHS in Exhibition this year and wanted to include everyone in the finals. The finals order format will be the following: The top 5 prelim scoring bands will be randomly drawn for the last 5 finals spots and the lowest 5 prelim scoring bands will be randomly drawn for the first 5 final spots.
  1. Most of all THANK YOU for choosing to participate in StarFest 2012!!
