Standard Biology Syllabus Mr. Anderson Room F104

Goal: To produce a competent scientific thinker who will meet the state standards for science.

Overview: Biology is a LAB oriented class. You will spend approximately 1/3 of your class time in the lab area. A majority of your homework will revolve around the labs that you perform.

Textbook: We will use “Biology” by Miller and Levine. We will use the book mostly as a resource. I have a classroom set and do have ten books available for overnight checkout,

Topics: We will study Scientific method, Cells, Biochemistry, DNA, Genetics, Taxonomy and 7 various Biomes. The first semester will deal with all of the essential body of knowledge that a student should know about life. The second semester involves the study of seven earthly biomes and the application of the knowledge from first semester.

Class work: The major focus is lab work! You are required to have a lab book with graph paper in it. You can purchase one from the NHS bookkeeper for $1 or if you wish purchase one on your own elsewhere as long as it is similar to the one required. All of your class notes and lab work will go into this lab book. You will perform 1 – 2 labs per week on average.

Bring your lab book to class everyday!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Grade: A = 90% and above, B = 80% - 89%, C = 70% - 79%, D = 60% - 69%

Labs = 100pts, Tests = 100 pts, all other assignments will vary. Overall we will accumulate between 2000 – 2500 pts per semester.

Tardies and Attendance: I will follow the Newberg High School policies as outlined in the student handbook. If you are absent and miss a lab then you must come in to make it up. I get here everyday by 7am. I can also be available at lunch (I have B lunch), on various late start Wednesdays and even during advisory. I am not available after school until after January as I coach football.

Synergy has a new grade book system that will be updated automatically. Grades will always be current and can be seen thru Parent-vue
